The American Jobs Plan

The #AmericanJobsPlan gives us an opportunity to invest and rebuild in America. This will enhance American competitiveness and create jobs.

And don't let anyone tell you we can't afford this. The truth is, we can't afford not to do it. It's time to pass the American Jobs Plan.

As we celebrate #EarthWeek, it's important to remember climate change poses an existential threat to our economic security. We must meet this challenge by creating millions of good, union jobs that power a more sustainable economy. The U.S. Department of Commerce, along with the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Department of Energy, recently announced a shared goal to deploy 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind in the United States by 2030, while protecting biodiversity and promoting ocean co-use. Meeting this target will trigger:

➡️More than $12 billion per year in capital investment in projects on both U.S. coasts
➡️Create tens of thousands of good-paying, union jobs
➡️More than 44,000 workers employed in offshore wind by 2030
➡️Nearly 33,000 additional jobs in communities supported by offshore wind activity.

Today I met with Ministry of Trade & Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing, and we reaffirmed our mutual commitment to the US-#Singapore economic relationship. I look forward to welcoming #Singapore companies to the upcoming SelectUSA Summit this June!

Had a good conversation today with US Secretary of Commerce, Secretary Gina Raimondo. During our call, I congratulated Secretary Raimondo on her appointment and reaffirmed the strong bilateral economic ties between the US and Singapore.

We also discussed ways that the US and Singapore could strengthen our economic collaboration. Aside from implementing the US-Singapore Trade Financing and Investment Cooperation MOU, we identified new areas for cooperation including pandemic recovery, supply chain continuity, and new opportunities in the digital and green economies. Cooperation in these new areas will strengthen our countries’ supply chain resilience, as well as benefit our enterprises and people.

I look forward to further collaborations between Singapore and the US to continue supporting our businesses and workers, strengthening our bilateral trade and investment ties, and helping our economies emerge stronger from COVID-19. CCS

Equal Pay Day with Mika Brzezinski on Morning Joe

This morning I joined Mika Brzezinski on Morning Joe to discuss the need to continue to close the pay gap for women.

If we want to build back better, that means more equally.

We cannot have a full economic recovery unless women and, in particular, women of color are included in that recovery. #EqualPayDay

Secretary Gina Raimondo President Joe Biden Now that lumber prices are up >300% and Americans are left in even more tough financial positions, what immediate remedies have you sought out to increase production? What is your solution to sky-rocketing lumber prices? What has your deep examination revealed behind this supply-demand issue? Just shy of a 2-month follow-up, what monumental actions have occurred to help solve this #lumbercrisis? Secretary Raimondo why don't you push for Nation wide license's for all trade's people. We all follow the same codes. My master's license in electrical should be good any where in the US.
Dear Secretary Raimondo, Americans are being victimized by the US lumber industry. This industry is taking advantage of the escalated demand for their product to monopolistically raise prices. This is having a clear negative financial impact on everyone in our country, all while the lumber industry has the benefit of the softwood duties imposed on Canadian lumber. Please help redirect this industry and curb the historical price escalations that are benefiting the few elitists. Thank you,
Secretary Raimondo I am writing to you on a subject you most likely are already aware of. I work for a company that imports pet toys and clothing from China. As with all business we have had many challenges over the last 15 months but we are fortunate that we have been able to stay on track without having to raise prices. This is now changing. Over the past 1-2 months, shipping companies have steadily raised prices on shipping. The cost for a 40' container that was around $3,500 only a few months ago is now doing for over $12,000 and we are being told it still may go up. Some may say - well leave China and produce either in the US or another country. Unfortunately, due to lack of the needed supply chain and trained labor to produce these products, there is no alternative to turn to in the near future. This is now leading to us to raising our prices effective in June. I am sure this is happening across all business segments as the alternative is to make no money or worse. We all understand the rules of supply and demand but this is going far past that. I do not think this trend will end unless the US Government steps in to do something. Hope you can help. Best, Mike Bennett
