PAVE PAVE connects, informs, and empowers parent leaders to give families in DC a voice and a choice in the vision for education in our city.

PAVE (Parents Amplifying Voices in Education) was founded in April 2016 with an all-parent governing board in order to connect, inform, and empower parent leaders to give families in DC a voice and a choice in the vision for education in our city. PAVE envisions an education system in DC where parents are partners and leaders in developing a diversity of safe, nurturing, and great schools for every child in every ward and community.

A BIG congratulations to the 21 schools named 2026 Bold Performance Schools by EmpowerK12 today! 🎉💜👏

We’re especially proud to have PAVE Parent Leaders from 9 of these school communities, bringing their to the fight for a stronger, more equitable education system for ALL DC kids!

These schools went above and beyond, exceeding expected proficiency rates by more than 10 percentage points! This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of school communities committed to making sure every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Here’s to celebrating these wins and continuing to push for even more progress for DC students! 💪📣

🚨Attention DC families! Early voting starts today, and it’s time to join PAVE Parent Leaders in committing to !!

Together, we will show every candidate and elected official that DC families are paying attention and ask them to commit to the same 5 values for all DC Kids:

💜High-quality schools and the information families need to make the best choice for their child,
💜Adequate and equitable funding for all public school students,
💜Safe, healthy, and welcoming school environments,
💜Out-of-school time and summer programs across all Wards, and
💜The necessary resources for all students, especially our students furthest from opportunity and with special needs.

More than 5,000 DC voters have already committed to make education a priority at the ballot. Every pledge becomes part of the record we will bring to our newly elected leaders and remind them that education must be a priority from day one.

We kicked off the week celebrating the launch of CSPS DC! 🎉📚💪

Their mission? Building a brighter future for DC students by pushing for better results, balanced funding, and bolder futures for ALL of DC’s students. 

From tackling chronic absenteeism to opening more doors to college and careers, we’re excited to see this work take shape and keep DC students at the center of the conversation! 

Tuesday was all about showing up and making our voices heard! 💜📣

PAVE Parent Leaders Yolanda Corbett and Katrice T joined a Washington Teachers’ Union (WTU) community conversation, bringing into the room!

We love seeing our Parent Leaders show up in spaces where the future of DC education is being discussed and making sure family voices are part of the conversation! 💪

Only 1 in 3 DC students are reading on or above grade level. 📚That needs to change and getting there will take ALL of us. 💪

On Tuesday, PAVE joined literacy experts, system leaders, school leaders, advocates, and community members at the Literacy Action Network meeting hosted by Representative Allister Chang and Center for Strong Public Schools, DC

Together, we dug into the CAPE data, explored areas of growth, identified where challenges remain, and discussed how we can work together to ensure every DC child has the skills they need to read and thrive. 

For the past two years, PAVE Parent Leaders have made literacy and academics a top priority. And they aren’t letting up until EVERY DC child is reading on or above grade level. 💜

Wednesday brought a DOUBLE dose of ! 🎤💪

PAVE Parent Leaders took their advocacy straight to the decision-makers, testifying at a DC Council hearing on Advanced Technical Centers (ATCs) & Career and Technical Education (CTE) and the October  DC State Board of Education (SBOE) hearing!

The was in full force this past weekend, kicking off the start of our 2026-2027 program year! 💜

PAVE Parent Leaders from all across the District came together for a day of learning, reflection, and community building. We dug into data, strengthened our leadership skills, and shared our Stories of Self, reconnecting with the experiences and passions that brought us to this work. Along the way, we celebrated our progress and grounded ourselves in the mission and values that keep us moving forward!

The strength of PAVE comes from the people behind it. Our Parent Leaders are mothers, fathers, grandparents and caregivers - all fierce advocates who bring their unique experiences and perspectives to the table. Together, we’re building a stronger community and raising our voices for ALL DC kids!

Here’s to another year of community, advocacy, and ! 💪📣

Parents spoke, and DC listened. Now, families have a new tool to help make informed decisions about their children’s futures!

was on full display at last week’s DC Deputy Mayor for Education launch of ETEP.DC.GOV! PAVE Parent Leaders know that choosing the right schools for their children requires not just knowing what programs are available, but also what is happening AFTER students graduate.

That is why we didn’t just advocate for the Education Through Employment Pathways (ETEP) Data System – we helped shape and protect it 💪

Throughout its development, we met with the ETEP team multiple times to share what information families need and how to make the dashboards accessible and useful for parents. And during tough budget years, we also helped to protect the funding needed to keep this important work going.

Now, the ETEP dashboard will give families, policymakers and school leaders a clearer picture of students’ journeys from K-12 and beyond, strengthening our education system by providing the data parents and leaders need to help our children thrive after graduation.

👏Shout-out to Parent Leader DaSean C Jones, who joined the launch panel to emphasize why this data matters and why families need to know how to access and use it.

As PAVE ED Maya Martin Cadogan shared in her opening remarks at the launch:

Last night, PAVE Parent Leaders, policymakers, system leaders, community members, and school leaders joined together at the annual DC Students Succeed celebration! Our coalition honored Councilmember Zachary Parker, CM Janeese Lewis George, and Chairman Phil Mendelson , and the leaders who helped this year. And we celebrated the policy wins in equitable funding, literacy, math, OST, high-impact tutoring, and whole child supports that will benefit all of DC’s kids. 

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us, and to all of our honorees for the work you did this year in education!
