My statement on H.R. 5961:
Congressman for New York's 10th Congressional District in the House of Representatives
My statement on H.R. 5961:
Tamar (78) and Yoram (80) were violently abducted by Hamas and forced to silently sit in a dark room under threat of more violence.
Tamar was released but Yoram remains held in those horrific conditions.
The international community must force Hamas to release the hostages. Now.
The Weaponization Subcommittee star witness (who has now given the same testimony TWICE) believes that it's perfectly fine for Elon Musk to profit off of graphic, violent content and Hamas propaganda.
Does that mean Jim Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee GOP also endorse profiting off of Hamas violence?
We need serious immigration reform, not more GOP messaging bills focused on political gamesmanship.
Let's instead pass my Disarming Cartels Act to stop the flow of U.S.-made guns that fuel crime on our southern border to cartels.
Dems have solutions. We just need GOP partners.
Even as rent skyrockets, corporate landlords in New York keep burdening renters with junk fees that make it even harder for families to pay their bills.
Representative Maxwell Alejandro Frost's End Junk Fees for Renters Act is critical to ending these fees and ensuring New Yorkers can secure affordable housing.
Santos is an admitted liar, fraud, cheat, and the recent Ethics Report confirms he is unfit for public office.
Today, Congressman Robert Garcia and I reintroduced our resolution to expel him from Congress.
Now the GOP must stop protecting him and stop putting politics over the people.
Today, I urged the New York State Attorney General to investigate RealPage Inc., which has allegedly facilitated anticompetitive behavior and artificially inflated rent prices.
New Yorkers are already severely rent burdened – we must hold accountable bad actors who manipulate the market to pursue profit.
Rep. Dan Goldman is calling for a state investigation into RealPage, a tech company accused of violating antitrust laws and allowing landlords to conspire to raise rents.
Calls to expel Palestinians from the U.S. are racist, xenophobic and have no place in our government. We cannot stand for rhetoric that fans the flames of hate in this nation.
Rep. Greg Landsman and I are condemning these hateful and anti-American proposals.
The proposal is "designed to inflame tensions which could result in violence," the Democrats said.
I’m horrified by the attack on three Palestinian students in Burlington, VT over the weekend and am praying for their full recovery.
As authorities investigate the motive behind these crimes, we must remember that hate of any kind – especially violence – has no place in the U.S.
My statement on the release of hostages and required conditions to end hostilities between Israel and Hamas:
Thank you Brooklyn Community District 2 for welcoming me to your office this morning to discuss your priorities and goals for NY-10.
Community boards across the City play an essential role in advocating for our communities. I look forward to being an asset and partner in lifting everyone up in NYC.
COVID-19 took a tremendous toll on children’s well-being and mental health – we owe it to our kids to support them in this critical period of their lives.
When our children suffer, our country suffers. We must fight to get our kids the care they deserve.
Ahead of the holidays, my team and I had a busy week in service to NY-10. Read all about it in the weekly wrap-up!
It’s Small Business Saturday!
As you look you do your holiday shopping, don’t forget to check out the many vibrant small businesses across NY-10 that make our district so great!
The work the Gowanus Canal Conservancy does to advocate for the Gowanus community is invaluable. Working in partnership, we can continue to work towards a community that provides vibrant and resilient green space and takes care of our environment.
X’s profiteering and failure to curtail the promotion of misinformation and violent, Hamas terrorist propaganda videos is unacceptable.
Rep. Jamie Raskin and I led 25 members in demanding X stop profiting off of this content, enforce X's policies, and act in the public good.
As Elon Musk and X fend off accusations of promoting antisemitic content, House Democrats want to know how they plan to rein in Hamas-related content.
Today, I joined Congressman Jared Moskowitz and the families of the victims for a startling and moving walk-through of Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS.
Five years ago, 17 lives were brutally cut short in the Parkland shooting. We must carry their memories with us as we fight to end gun violence.
This week, I introduced the ‘Disarming Cartels Act’ to stop the flow of U.S.-manufactured guns into the hands of Mexican cartels.
Check out the rest of the week in our wrap-up below:
As I've said repeatedly and Secretary Mayorkas reiterated, our immigration system needs comprehensive legislative reform – only doable by Congress.
Border security isn't a political game. My GOP colleagues must stop playing politics and join me in passing meaningful immigration laws.
Thank you to President Gilles from the Park Slope Civic Council for meeting with me in my Brooklyn office.
The Civic Council has a long history of advocacy – more than 100 years – here in Park Slope and continues to be a great partner in service to the community.
Violence and conflict is sadly occurring all around the world, including in Sudan where the civil war has already resulted in thousands of deaths of innocent civilians.
My heart goes out to the people of Sudan who are suffering at this time.
Seven months into Sudan’s civil war, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and its allies are ransacking and capturing the Darfur region. An aid worker said, “People are dying like insects.”
It was truly my pleasure to meet with the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association Senior Center residents and founder Paul Mak to learn about the organization’s work, discuss community priorities, and identify ways my office can better support the Sunset Park community.
My statement on the release of the House Ethics Committee's report on George Santos:
Violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank poses a threat to Israel’s near-term security, Palestinian human rights, and long-term regional peace.
Senator Cory Booker and I are calling on President Joe Biden to make clear to our Israeli allies that this violence is unacceptable.

Gun violence is now the leading killer of kids in the US.
It’s why as Chair of the Dads Caucus Gun Violence Prevention Working Group, I was glad to welcome reps from Everytown for Gun Safety, GIFFORDS, and Brady: United Against Gun Violence to discuss commonsense gun safety laws to save our kids' lives.
They can't wait.
Yesterday, I marched alongside over 100,000 Americans in solidarity with the Israeli people to demand the immediate release of all remaining hostages in Gaza and call for ending antisemitism worldwide.
We need to bring our brothers and sisters home. Never Again must mean now.
Elizabeth Naftali lost her niece and nephew on Oct 7, and her 3yo niece remains a Hamas hostage.
Yet Chairman Comer is so desperate to dig up evidence to support his sham impeachment inquiry that he targeted a grieving Ms. Naftali with a subpoena about buying art.
Shameful.
Experts agree—the best way to secure our border and disrupt fentanyl and human trafficking is to stop the flow of US-made guns to Mexican cartels.
The GOP bill does not mention the source of cartels' power: guns. So I urge Republicans to support my Disarming Cartels Act instead.
Fentanyl and human trafficking are controlled by Mexican drug cartels, who rely on US-made guns to fuel their power.
To stop crime on the border, we must stop the exportation of weapons of war. My Disarming Cartels Act will take away the cartels' power and make our border safer.
Rep. Dan Goldman, a Democrat from New York, is introducing the Disarming Cartels Act, which aims to curb gun trafficking from the U.S. into Mexico.
Working families across the country need federal support, and they need it now.
The ‘Working Families Task Force Act’ will create a strong, central task force which would direct resources and coordinate a national strategy to help all working families nationwide.
Happy Diwali to the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist New Yorkers celebrating this joyous holiday!
May this Diwali bring you and your family peace and light!
This week my team and I worked to recognize the contributions of American veterans, increase access to internet for disadvantaged communities, protect Palestinians in the U.S., applauded Biden’s Amtrak investment, and investigate Clarence Thomas’ malpractices.
On Veterans Day, we honor those who risk their lives in defense of our freedom and democracy. I am humbled by the stories of the veterans I have met across NY-10 and am deeply grateful for the service of those in uniform, past and present.
More benefits are available now than ever before for veterans and their families as a result of the PACT Act. To learn more, go to va.gov/pactact

The PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. The PACT Act adds to the list of health conditions that we assume (or “presume”) are caused by exposure to these substances. This law helps us provide g...
On November 10, 1775, the United States Marine Corps was established to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War. Thank you to all Marines, past and present, who have served to protect and defend our nation. Happy Birthday, Marines!
Prospect Park is a vital public space in NY-10. Our friends at Prospect Park want to hear from you about your experience in Prospect Park on how it can better serve the public and can build even greater connections with our community.

Yesterday, I joined Senator Dick Durbin, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky in calling on the Biden Administration to extend TPS and DED to Palestinians in the United States, allowing families to remain safely here out of harm's way.
It’s time to start thinking about health care in 2024!

340B Program Hospitals provide 77% of Medicaid care and 67% of all unpaid care. But this essential health care program is under attack by Big Pharma.
Protecting affordable health care cannot wait.
Tonight, don’t forget to set your clocks back an hour as Daylight Savings comes to an end. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep!
If the House GOP were serious about helping the Department of Homeland Security secure the border, they'd vote for the White House's $13.6B border security budget request.
They have an opportunity to join us in taking decisive action to prioritize border security, as opposed to just political posturing.
Ensuring the safety and security of the American people is a national imperative.

House Rs talk about border security but won't engage in comprehensive immigration reform. Instead, they work to sabotage President Joe Biden and to defund the FBI, which would have catastrophic effects at the border. Let’s stop politicizing the issue and work together to address the border.
Either Congressman James Comer is patently incompetent or he’s outright lying. Before going on TV, I urge Mr. Comer to actually review the bank records, which show a loan from Joe Biden to Jim 48 days before the check. Incompetence is bad, but spreading false information is inexcusable.
As a Jew, I'm scared for the first time in my life. After Oct 7, Jewish persecution is no longer just a part of history. The recent dramatic rise in antisemitism and islamophobia is unacceptable. The U.S. must turn to a common humanity and universally condemn hate of all sorts.
Susie, you’re a great colleague and friend, but I’m sorry to say that your Las Vegas Aces are going down. I look forward to seeing you on the House Floor representing the next WNBA champions, the New York Liberty. Don’t worry, I’ll get you a fresh jersey when they win the Finals.
I hope Justice Thomas’ recusal from the Eastman ruling is a sign that he recognizes the integrity of SCOTUS is at stake. Koch lawyers will soon be arguing the Loper case before SCOTUS, and Thomas' years-long relationship with the Kochs demands his recusal from that case as well. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/clarence-thomas-recuses-supreme-court-rejects-trump-lawyer-eastman-rcna117607
As we saw in yesterday’s sham "impeachment" inquiry, the House GOP isn’t interested in the facts since they undermine their baseless conclusions. Impeachment is a solemn, serious process, and the GOP circus is anything but. It’s time to end the charade and do the people’s work.
House Rs' first impeachment hearing not only lacks ANY fact witnesses with first-hand knowledge of the bogus allegations, they even tried to block Dems from introducing factual evidence. Why? Because facts and evidence would reveal the truth about this baseless investigation.
In order to reach a broader audience, I’ve asked Fox News to have me on following tomorrow’s “impeachment” hearing. They have not yet agreed. I hope they do accept so we can discuss actual facts and evidence instead of the lies and innuendo they are used to from the GOP House Oversight Committee.
House MAGA Republicans are dead-set on doing the political bidding of their mob boss down in Mar-a-Lago and, as his dutiful soldiers, are wasting time on a sham impeachment inquiry while barreling us into a shutdown. To them, Trump’s wishes matter more than the American people.
As we approach Yom Kippur – the holiest day of the Jewish calendar – we mark the many important contributions the Jewish community has made to U.S. history and culture. We must also recommit to combatting antisemitism nationwide, with all of us coming together to root out hate.
The House GOP has done nothing but demonstrate an egregious failure to govern: ❌McCarthy can't stand up to the MAGA-right to fund the government ❌Committee Rs are wasting time on a sham impeachment ❌and so-called "moderate" Republicans are abandoning their constituents
Our GOP witnesses today agreed: we need more immigration judges, to stop American gun exports to cartels, and expedited work authorizations for asylees. Yet these are all Dem proposals. The GOP has no solutions but instead want our system to fail for their own political benefit.
Rather than leading in the majority, the House GOP are failing the American people who sent us to DC to govern. Instead of funding the government, the GOP's been hijacked by extremists and are barreling head-first into a shutdown while wasting time on a sham impeachment inquiry.
Mexican cartels control human and drug trafficking across the southern border, and their own witness acknowledges that they can only do that using guns – over 70% come from the US. If the GOP were serious about this, they’d start by addressing the proliferation of US-made guns.
The House GOP has received thousands of pages of bank records and taken countless hours of witness testimony, and still doesn't have any evidence linking President Biden to any wrongdoing. Declaring an impeachment inquiry can’t change the fact that the evidence doesn’t exist.
Companies shouldn’t be surprising us with hidden, unexplained fees on utility bills, overdraft charges, airline tickets, and more – costing Americans over $65 billion annually. President Joe Biden and House Democrats are working to eliminate these junk fees and lower costs for working families.
91% of Americans want universal background checks on all gun sales. There's no other issue with such broad, bipartisan support. Yet the GOP refuse to listen to the American people and won't prioritize commonsense gun violence prevention. We must put our kids over the gun lobby.
Last year my kindergartner, like so many kids nationwide, had to endure an active shooter drill. He barely understands what a gun is. This is the reality they face when the #1 threat to their lives is gun violence. The GOP must come to the table to address this epidemic. Now.
No parent should ever have to choose between being present for their family and putting food on the table. We must make it easier for working families by passing the Child Tax Credit, expanding paid family leave, and providing access to affordable childcare.
This summer alone, we’ve seen it time and again – extreme weather events are becoming devastatingly common. The time to start protecting our communities ahead of the next cataclysmic event is NOW. Before it’s too late.
I’m proud to represent NYC as our city honors its long history of welcoming immigrants with open arms, providing shelter and support to migrants in their pursuit of the American Dream. But we can’t do it alone—we need the federal government to step up and do its fair share.
