✨💜 Cheers to Spot of Tea for a fantastic two years in NoMa! As much as we hate to see you go, we’re so proud of your success that made you outgrow your current space.

Spot of Tea started as a pop-up in NoMa inside of Streets Market. Now, after more than two years of support from their NoMa neighbors, they need a larger space to call home.

Spot of Tea’s last day of operation at their NoMa location will be Sunday, April 3. They’re currently looking for a new home in NE DC, so it’s not goodbye, just see you later. If you need your fix of Spot of Tea in the meantime, you can visit them at their 14th street location!

The votes have been counted and a third great community name selection process is complete. NoMa's newest park is: Swampoodle Terrace!

From the beginning, Swampoodle Terrace led the other nominated names, Union Garden and Tiber Creek Park. In the end, Swampoodle Terrace garnered more than 20 percent more votes than the next highest vote getter, Union Garden.

As always, the NoMa Parks Foundation and NoMa BID are grateful to all the members of the NoMa community who participated in this process. Nearly 900 people voted for a name, and more than 200 people suggested names. We also want to thank our partners Director Delano D. Hunter Sr. and the staff at the Department of Parks and Recreation, and Councilmember Charles Allen and his Ward 6 team for providing support throughout the process. Councilmember Allen is already working on the legislation needed to make the name official.

Some of you may have noticed that construction of Swampoodle Terrace is underway. The Forrester team mobilized on site during the week of February 21st! We are hoping for an early fall 2022 opening -- assuming supply chains and weather permit. Please stay tuned for occasional updates about Swampoodle Terrace progress and other NoMa Parks updates.

This past holiday season, the #NoMa community came together to raise over $40,000 for The Giving Tree Project, a fundraising program benefiting The h3 Project, a local non-profit homeless outreach and service provider. Donations enabled the h3 Project to purchase and provide everyday essentials -- kitchen utensils, small appliances, bedding, and more -- for its clients who had recently moved off the streets and into housing.

Thank you to our partners, Wunder Garten and Sherman Gardens, and to the 60+ individuals and businesses who contributed to help NoMa neighbors during the holidays. We look forward to your continued support in 2022! Please keep The Giving Tree Project in mind as you plan your charitable donations in 2022.

Have you voted for Swampoodle II's Permanent Name? After receiving hundreds of responses, read below to learn more about the three names that received dozens of nominations. In order of the largest number of nominations, the candidates are:

1. Swampoodle Terrace – Many people commented that continuity with the name Swampoodle Park would be a positive feature, especially given the complementary nature and adjacency of the 2 parks.

2. Union Garden – Supporters of this nomination liked the implicit reference to nearby important places like Union Station and Union Market, as well as the fact that this park would be a geographic link between those places. Additionally, several nominations appreciated that the definition of “union” is about as uniting and joining; a role that they thought this park would serve.

3. Tiber Creek Park – This was the choice of people who want the name of the new park to acknowledge the existence of Tiber Creek, channeled into the Washington City Canal in 1815, and now flowing underground, mostly in tunnels in NoMa and beyond. Many building projects in NoMa have had to contend with the unchanneled flows of the Tiber Creek during construction. Mother Nature is hard to control.

So excited to be partnering with NoMa Business Improvement District, Wunder Garten and Sherman Gardens this holiday season. If you are getting a Holiday Tree please consider purchasing it at Wunder Garten- $10 dollars from every tree sold will go towards the work The h3 Project does for individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as those who are newly housed. We are honored and humbled by their kindness, and so very excited to see all of you there! 💛🎄💛 Here are two simple ways you can make the holidays merrier for those in need in NoMa: 1️⃣ Purchase your Christmas tree from the lot at Wunder Garten, and proceeds from each tree sold will go to support the h3 Project, a local, non-profit homeless outreach provider who is working to help formerly unhoused NoMa residents settle into new homes provided through the DC C.A.R.E. encampment pilot program. The tree lot opens this Saturday! https://bit.ly/3oSNp3c 2️⃣ Contribute to the Giving Tree Project’s GoFundMe to support the ongoing work of the h3 Project and the dozens of clients it serves. Whatever level of support you choose, from $10 to $100, your contribution will help someone settle into their new home: https://bit.ly/3lnXDYz
