The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators The NHCSL is the preeminent organization serving and representing the interests of Hispanic state legislators from all states, commonwealths, and territories of the United States.

Our mission is to serve as a catalyst for joint action on issues of common concern to all segments of the Hispanic community; a forum for information exchange and networking for Hispanic state legislators; an institute for leadership training; a liaison with sister national Hispanic organizations; a promoter of partnerships with business and labor; and a partner with Hispanic legislators and their associations internationally.

NHCSL passed a resolution offered by Senator Luz Arce Ferrer (PR) authorizing the organization to advocate for expanded funding for treatment of mental health disorders, alcoholism and other addiction services. In August, NHCSL honored the life and leadership of Cuban dissident Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas by passing a heartfelt posthumous resolution. “Mr. Payá Sardiñas dedicated his life to better the lives of his fellow Cuban citizens, he is an inspiration to us all”, said State Representative Minnie Gonzalez (CT), President of NHCSL. “The legacy he leaves behind motivates the Cuban people to keep voicing their dream of someday gaining freedom of speech and self governance.” http://nhcsl.org/news/september-21-2012-1.php
