This #Thanksgiving, responders with the National Disaster Medical System are supporting hospitals in many communities across the country, working to provide patient care in some of the hardest-hit areas of our country. These responders are helping augment local hospital staff in Wyoming, providing top-quality care to patients who are both infected with #COVID19 and have medical issues that complicate patient care. Here, registered nurses Talia Audley, Andy Turcotte, and Joe Smiles and paramedic Clif Whitten from a Disaster Medical Assistance Team based in New Hampshire (DMAT NH-1) are discussing effective patient care strategies and taking steps to promote infection control in the hospital.

This year, responders from the National Disaster Medical System have deployed to serve in some of the hardest hit hospitals in the country; support long-term care facilities entrusted with protecting the health of elderly and at-risk individuals; and assist local authorities by supporting fatality management for those who have succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to all of the responders who have made the commitment to serve with NDMS this year, especially those who are currently deployed and away from their families on #Thanksgiving. #GivingThanks

Nurses, medical social workers, case managers, and other discharge professionals face tough decisions every time #COVID19 patients with disabilities are discharged. Ultimately, the goal is to empower persons with disabilities to return to living in a setting that is as inde-pendent and integrated as possible after a COVID-19 diagnosis. Using the Discharge Plan-ning and Care Coordination resource developed by ASPR, CMS, and the HHS Administra-tion for Community Living, you can make more informed decisions to help people with disa-bilities transition to appropriate living settings.
