Biden says tackling climate change will create jobs, bring economic recovery

President Biden is laying the foundation for bold, government-wide action that puts us on a path to net-zero emissions by 2050. Importantly, he’s doing so in a way that prioritizes American workers, environmental justice, and scientific integrity.

President Joe Biden signed executive actions on climate change on Wednesday, including a freeze on new oil and gas leases on federal land.

This afternoon, a violent mob, incited by the sitting President of the United States, waged an attack on our Capitol and on our democracy. Instead of watching the ceremonial tallying of electoral votes, we saw an insurrection here in the United States of America. The blatant misinformation that Donald Trump embraces, and the white supremacists and other extremists that he refuses to disavow, have been allowed into our politics and, today, they forced their way into our Capitol.

As elected officials, our words matter. They carry weight. And we have an obligation to wield them responsibly. This president, and those who have continued to push the conspiracy theories to which he clings, are complicit in creating an environment that has led to the violence and destruction we saw here today. Our country is better than this. But, unfortunately, this is who Donald Trump is. His concern is only for himself – not for the innocent lives his rhetoric endangers, not for the democratic institutions it undermines, not for the country it further divides. I have said repeatedly today that Donald Trump should resign immediately. If he refuses, then we must find ways to safeguard our democracy for the next 14 days and remove him from office. It’s not enough to simply ‘turn the temperature down.’ My Republican colleagues must unequivocally reject the conspiracy theories and extremism that fueled this attack on our peaceful transition of power. Tell the American people the truth. Choose the world’s greatest democracy over Donald Trump.

Make no mistake: we will not be intimidated by domestic terrorists. We will ensure our Constitution withstands this assault. The certification of the election will continue, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in on January 20th. I look forward to voting tonight to uphold the will of the American people and doing my part to address the monumental challenges that our country faces going forward.

Biden becomes first presidential candidate to win more than 80 million votes

We are not a government of Trump, by Trump, and for Trump.

We are a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

The people have spoken. Congress’ only job today is to listen to them and certify the clear results of the 2020 election.

Joe Biden has become the first presidential candidate to win more than 80 million votes, with his record-breaking number of popular votes still likely to increase in the coming days as ballots continue to be counted across the nation.

After overriding Trump veto, Carper celebrates NDAA passage and good it will do for Delaware's military families

As a U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves veteran, I was proud to join my colleagues to send a strong message: we will uphold our promise to support our service members and their families while ensuring our men and women in uniform have the tools to keep our country and citizens safe.

I’m glad to say that we were able to secure investments to modernize Delaware Air National Guard's fleet of C-130 aircraft and funding to support Delaware jobs. As an ROTC student who went on to serve as a naval flight officer, I’m especially proud we included the #FLIGHTAct in this bill which will provide students at Delaware State University a greater chance to succeed and serve in leadership roles in the military and in their civilian careers.

After overriding a veto from President Donald Trump--the first such move by the Senate in Trump's single-term tenure--U.S. Senator Tom Carper was celebrating congressional passage of the Fiscal Year 2021

This landmark law saved millions of lives and trillions of dollars

The Clean Air Act is a promise to ensure that everyone in our country has clean air to breathe. For 50 years, this landmark law has ushered in dramatic improvements to air quality, improving the health of millions.

During that same time, our economy has expanded. The progress made under the Clean Air Act is proof that improvements in public health and environmental quality go hand in hand with economic growth and job creation.

While our work to ensure clean air for everyone is far from over, we can continue to make improvements with the Clean Air Act as our guide

The U.S. Clean Air Act turns 50 on December 31. America's dramatically cleaner skies are evidence of what legislation and innovation can do.

GREAT NEWS: The omnibus includes my bipartisan plan to implement a nationwide phasedown of HFCs.

By phasing down these potent greenhouse gases, the U.S. will reap nearly $39 billion in annual economic benefits while helping the planet avoid a half-degree Celsius in global warming.

New focus for ‘Delaware Day’ holiday tells history of enslaved people

Happy #DelawareDay!

233 years ago today, the history of our country was changed forever when one small state played a very big role and became the first to ratify the U.S. Constitution – providing the very foundation for our democracy that has been emulated the world over.

Each year, we in the First State celebrate #DelawareDay by highlighting the five men who gathered in Dover to sign and ratify the U.S. Constitution. This year, Delaware Historical and Cultural Affairs is helping share the stories of five different people who contributed to Delaware's early history and helped shaped our small state's big history.

Instead of celebrating Delaware’s five founding fathers who signed the Constitution, this year’s focus shifts to four enslaved Black Delawareans and an abolitionist.

Today marks the completion of a project 20 years in the making: a new third Amtrak track between Newark and Wilmington!

This third rail will improve the speed and reliability of rail service in the busy Northeast Corridor, helping to reduce the number of cars on our roads and the amount of pollution in our air.

This project—funded mostly through federal dollars—reminds us that our states and localities can’t improve our nation’s infrastructure alone.

It’s also an example of how we can enhance our existing infrastructure in a way that increases mobility while reducing carbon pollution.

Trump Administration Declines to Tighten Soot Rules, Despite Link to Covid Deaths

Doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. In the last hours of the Trump Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency continues to work around the clock to cement its anti-science, pro-polluter agenda.

Health experts say the E.P.A. decision defies scientific research showing that particulate pollution contributes to tens of thousands of premature deaths annually.

If you had read the Federalist Papers, which details the thoughts and processes by which our US Constitution was formulated and written [i.e. understood the history behind the writing of the US Constitution, and the precise language of the US Constitution itself] you would know that Congress can only impeach someone sitting in office, not a private citizen. Any attempt to impeach President Donald J. Trump, who became a private citizen as of Noon, January 20th 2021, is against the US Constitution, as written. Trying to do so only validates what he has exposed [and will continue to expose], and many have feared, is the corruption and possible treasonous actions and behaviors of many elected officials in both the US House and Senate [and prior office holders, still influential]. Many fear him because they don’t want to be exposed for wrong-doing [if not unethical, possible criminal or even treasonous]. BE WARNED!!!!!: The Democrats, having started this process, have now opened up the door to Republicans, sometime in the future, countering this by bringing articles of impeachment against any prior sitting president [such as Obama, Bill Clinton, Bush], any current or prior elected official in either chamber [such as Hillary Clinton [As either Senator or Secretary of State], John Kerry [as Senator], Charles Schumer, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Geoffrey Nadler, etc.]…or any [now current] private citizen, for that matter, including Brennen, Comey, Hapsel, etc.
I understand that Senator Tom Carper has introduced legislation to grant Washington, D.C. statehood. This is, of course, yet another assault upon the U.S. Constitution! Clearly under Art. I, Sec. 8, Cl., 17, the Framers of the Constitution did not intend for the District of Columbia to be itself a State nor for the seat of the U.S. government to be within the dominion of any State. D.C. statehood would require a constitutional [albeit, ill-conceived] amendment. The sponsor of the legislation for D.C. statehood should know this! IF D.C. really wants statehood, a reasonable solution might be to simply return D.C. to the State of Maryland, from which it came, and to move the seat of the U.S. government to some other location on a parcel of land ceded by one or more States. I cannot take credit for coming up with the idea of moving the U.S. capital from D.C. to another location. I believe this idea originated in a speech delivered several years ago by Constitution Party presidential candidate Howard Phillips. Admittedly, moving the U.S. capital would be a much easier undertaking in a Post-Big Government era of Limited Government, in which the size and scope of the U.S. government would be reduced to only those activities actually authorized by the U.S. Constitution. In addition, some of the concerns of D.C. residents might persist even in an era of limited government. Therefore, I am now looking with favor upon a constitutional amendment which would grant the District of Columbia home rule SHORT OF statehood. After all, I doubt that I would want to reside in a district in which [an often-incompetent and often-dysfunctional] Congress “exercise[d] exclusive Legislation.” It appears that the Framers of the U.S. Constitution severely overestimated the integrity and competence of too many members of their Article I “Congress.” Perhaps the drafters of this new “Home Rule for D.C. Amendment” could look to the example provided by Mexico City, to wit: On 29 January 2016, Mexico City ceased to be the Federal District (Spanish: Distrito Federal or D.F.) and is now officially known as Ciudad de México (CDMX), with a greater degree of autonomy. Likewise, perhaps the “Home Rule for D.C. Amendment” can transform the District of Columbia, or D.C., into the City of Washington (or C.W.), with a greater degree of autonomy, but short of statehood. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Well I hope you’re happy Tom. “Executive Orders are dictatorial”.......Joe Biden. How this buffoon was elected to office is beyond not only myself but 70+ million other Americans. And to think you support this clown, his hypocrisy, racism, lack of empathy for the middle class American and his ultra-liberal policies make me have to ask you....How do you sleep at night? I’m sure just fine as you and the rest of your cohorts haven’t missed a paycheck over the last 10 months, lost a business due to the virus or “peaceful protests” and continued to become wealthier off the backs of myself and other hard working Americans. Well done.
you are a slimly low life, you just cant want to mess this country up. whybm dont you go out west you dems alreay screwed that up.
Considering the attack on our capitol on 01/06/2021, the following organizations and all their affiliates and offshoots must immediately and officially be designated as domestic sponsors of terrorism, and all their members labeled as domestic terrorists: Proud Boys; The KKK; Boogaloo Bois; The 3%; Oath keepers; QAnon. Eliminating these illicit, treasonous, terrorist militias must be priority 1 for the combined forces of the justice department including the FBI, CIA, NSA, DHS and the combined assets of US Military Intelligence.
Vote to impeach. Trump does not deserve a pension, nor a carte blanc to cover all of his travel expenses. He should be in prison. VOTE TO IMPEACH.

Happy Birthday, Senator !
Happy Birthday Senator Carper 🎂🎉🥂
For the republicans to ask for unity without accountability is like the nazis asking the jews "let's all just forgive and forget and sing kumbaya". No republican politician or pundit should be given any air time on any media platform until they say, verbatim, the following words: "The accusations regarding voting fraud in the 2020 presidential elections have all been, from the beginning, a deliberate and seditious lie. I am totally ashamed of ever having repeated it in any way, and now unequivocally reject this treasonist propanda." They should then resign, promising to never run for any political office again!
Senator Tom Carper - President Biden has set the example. I ask Delaware's Congressional Delegation to support and move forward on the following Petition to create a permanent US COVID Memorial at the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall.
Dear Senator Carper, Thank you for all that you do. While it is reassuring that Speaker Pelosi and the House stepped up to impeach this lawless president for a second time, it would be ideal if the Senate could hold a trial and convict without delay so future generations can see that he was the first to be removed from office in such a manner for his crimes. The world witnessed the impeachable offenses as they unfolded live; the president is guilty without question and should be charged as such before his term expires. What is the wait for? Every single day Trump remains in office, he is an unprecedented and unhinged danger, particularly as he becomes more desperate. Please seek a way to meet right away as the pages of history, and the narrative they set, are on the line. If the Senate unfortunately cannot find any emergency way to reconvene immediately, a trial and conviction should still proceed so Trump is prevented from being able to hold office again, and in addition, his Republican enablers in Congress should also face consequences for seeking to overturn the election and contributing to the insurrection. Please pursue every avenue possible to push for their resignations and expulsions in order to set a clear precedent; they have utterly disqualified themselves from being able to hold onto their seats another day longer and have disgraced the nation. Please know that children will one day read about these unprecedented, dark days and closely examine how our leaders responded; please do the right thing and seek justice for their sakes. Thank you.
