PAKPAC Statement on Storming of US Capitol
The PAKPAC National Board strongly condemns the storming of the United States Capitol. Yesterday's violence was a clear attempt to circumvent our nation's electoral process and has no place in a democracy.
As the nation's only Pakistani-American political action committee registered with the Federal Election Committee, we are proud to work daily with leaders on Capitol Hill. We have an office across from Capitol Hill.
It was especially saddening to see the chaos that unfolded there yesterday because these are allies we have hosted in our living rooms, our Masjids and on Zoom.
In stark contrast to yesterday's events, in September 2019, more than 100 Pakistani-American activists traveled to Capitol Hill for PAKPAC's Day of Action on Kashmir. The day of activism and professional bipartisan advocacy had our community exercise its First Amendment right and visit with dozens of Congressmen and Senators.
We bring up the Day of Action on Kashmir because this is how change is made in our great democracy.
Not by violence, but by regular people participating in the democratic system and making their voices heard.
Insurrection, violence, and riots are never the answer.
PAKPAC is working with our champions in the House and Senate to encourage a smooth transition for the incoming Administration and is encouraging members of both parties to put aside their party affiliations for the greater good of our democracy.
You can do your part to encourage the peaceful transition by calling your Member of Congress (click here to find out who your Representative is) on the Congressional switchboard and demanding that they fight to uphold our democratic values.

We wish you, your families, and our nation, peace and health.
