Ultraviolet (UV) rays are a part of sunlight that is an invisible form of radiation. UV rays can pe*****te and change the structure of skin cells. There are three types of UV rays: ultraviolet A (UVA), ultraviolet B (UVB), and ultraviolet C (UVC). UVA is the most abundant source of solar radiation a

Safety tip for the week: Unprotected skin can be damaged by the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays in as little as 15 minutes. Yet it can take up to 12 hours for skin to show the full effect of sun exposure. Even if it's cool and cloudy, you still need protection. Clouds do not block UV rays; they filter them - and sometimes only slightly. Remember to plan ahead and keep sun protection handy in your car, bag, or backpack.

The Command Picnic Day turned out great, good food and great company. Thank you to everyone who showed up and participated in the fun! Don't forget to check out the photos from the day and let us know what you think!

Navy IPO will be providing safety tips each week to help you better prepare for this summer.

Safety tip for this week: never forget about protecting your eyes – exposure to bright sunlight increases the risk of developing cataracts, macular degeneration, and growths on the eye including cancer. So don’t forget to wear sunglasses when you go outside!

As we step into summer we need to be aware of the dangers that sun exposure can cause. This is why Navy IPO is proud to participate in UV Safety Month and help raise awareness of the risks of sun damage. During the month of July join us in taking action to prevent skin cancer and reduce the risk of UV damage.

Today Navy IPO would like to remember those who helped set the foundation of America's independence by signing the Declaration of Independence. As you celebrate this day remember to practice safe measures and to have a Happy Independence Day.
