The IVLP is funded by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Office of International Visitors. Since 1986, World Learning Exchange and Training Unit (ETU) has designed and implemented programs for IVLP participants—currently over 700 per year—from all over the world who are selected by U.S. embassies to travel to the US to meet and confer with their professional counterparts. Visitors represent government, politics, the media, education, non-governmental organizations, the arts, public health, international security, business and trade, and other fields. Over 225 current and former heads of government and state and many other distinguished world leaders in the public and private sectors have participated in the International Visitor Leadership Program. Participants Most participants are mid-career professionals; for many, this is their first visit to the United States. Programs are designed for individual visitors to groups of 25 or more. World Learning program staff work closely with their State Department colleagues to customize a program designed for each specific project. Program Design A typical project includes up to a week of meetings in Washington, DC to provide an orientation and introduction to the theme, including meetings with federal officials and agencies, national organizations, academics and think tanks, and professionals in their specific field of interest. Meetings may include panel discussions, site visits, workshops, individual interlocutors, or job shadowing. Cultural events, such as a musical performance or sports event, a city tour and a briefing on the federal system of government are featured in most programs. Visitors typically travel to an additional three or four cities in geographically varied regions of the country, and may include a state capital and a small town to provide first-hand exposure to the great diversity that exists in the US Included in the project design are school visits, volunteer or service activities and additional cultural events such as rodeos, state fairs, festivals, visits to sites of scenic beauty, or events that highlight seasonal activities or some unique aspect of the region visited.

Cherry Blossom Festival (U.S. National Park Service)

It's that magical time of year, when Washington, DC bursts into color! The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a spring celebration commemorating the March 27, 1912, gift of Japanese cherry trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to our city. Do you have a #cherryblossom photo to share? We'd love to see it!

The blooming of the cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. has come to symbolize the natural beauty of our nation's capital city. The famous trees, a gift of Japan in 1912, signal Washington's beginning of spring with an explosion of life and color that surrounds the Tidal Basin in....

To know why conflict mongering will complicate the Mahanadi inter-state river water dispute further and pop up demands for more dams ultimately to kill the river, please read my just published blog in Down to Earth ! Thanks!
