There was a time when neighbors knew each other, and supported those in need. There was a time when neighborhoods spoke out against negative things happening around them.
(10)
There was a time when we could talk, play games that weren't plugged in, learn from each other or just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch. Rather than reminisce on the old days, the Emergence Community Arts Collective believes we can revive them. The ECAC, located at 733 Euclid St. NW, Washington DC builds on the strengths of the community by providing informal and formal gathering space, capturing neighborhood history, engaging new and old residents in civic discourse, and reconnecting the generations of residents. ECAC is a model for a true community center designed to rebuild the social networks that are critical to community development.
Mission: The Emergence Community Arts Collective is a cultural arts and community center with a mission to empower the human spirit. Through programs and partnerships, we engage community members of all ages in civic engagement, volunteerism, arts, education, support groups, social activities, and heritage. The resulting social capital generated from these activities strengthen the community by transforming fearful, isolated residents to engaged, empowered citizens.

Raw Food Festival
The Emergence Community Arts Collective (ECAC) is a wonderful treasure. The ECAC provides affordable space for artistic, environmental, and health events, like the Raw Food Festival. Rooms are $20 per hour and Sylvia is very accommodating. You have an event and she has space, it will work.
More than that Sylvia Robinson helps you grow. A few years ago, I was looking for a space for a talk, she helped. This year, I organized a Salsa Extravaganza for 100 people at the ECAC. And now the 2nd Annual Raw Food Festival with 7 chefs, 10 talks, 6 exercise demonstrations, and hopefully well over 200 attendees.
Attend wonderful events, create your own, but most importantly take advantage of this wonderful local treasure. More info at http://www.ecacollective.org/

This Weekend! Labor Day Weekend 2013: ECAC Building Campaign Launch Events
The ECAC is launching a campaign in the 10th year of the buildings purchase to restore and rebuild parts of our building that have suffered through heavy rains, hurricanes, high winds, and aging since 2003. Well also take this opportunity to strengthen our community connections through our Community Wall Project, telling the stories of the community to all who visit. This permanent art installation on the front retaining walls, once they are rebuilt, will lead us into a new phase of growth. We will officially launch this campaign on Labor Day Weekend with the following events:
Saturday August 31st from 10-5: Volunteer Day
We will be working on indoor and outdoor projects to spruce up the center for upcoming activities. You can register by emailing [email protected] or call (202) 462-2285. If you have carpentry, drywall repair or masonry skills and can donate time for small projects at any time, please contact us. Those who volunteer on August 31st will receive an ECAC Service Coupon for each hour worked, which can be credited towards the Benefit Party.
Saturday August 31st at 8:00pm: Benefit Party
Party with us as we welcome Bomani Armah, poet,hip-hop artist and producer most known for his 2007 viral video hit Read a Book. Also performing will be the Coolots, the original all female Rock & Soul band hailing from the Washington, DC area. Food will be available for sale by Rakhels Raw Cuisine.
Cost: $10
