“One in three US households face challenges in meeting energy needs.” 2015 Residential Energy Consumption Survey

As shapers of the built environment, architects are uniquely positioned to address the energy needs of our buildings through energy conserving design strategies and thoughtful planning. It’s good for the environment in the long run and it’s good for our families now. Especially very low income families who often have to decide which basic needs to fill on a week to week basis.  This Thursday, the River East Design Center is teaming up with @studiolyew and the DC Department of Energy and Environment to discuss ways to make homes more energy efficient and save money as a result. We’ll also be discussing DOEE’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and how qualifying residents can access benefits.

We wrapped up our summer camp on Friday and it was such a wonderful experience. Although we couldn't physically be in the same space, our students and volunteers were so engaged we barely could tell we weren't all in one room. We covered financial literacy with @knowledgeiskeyinc_, had business plan presentations with @nubianhueman and other community leaders, and used @tinkercad with @districtnoma to create an apartment skyscraper. Thank you to our volunteers (Larry, Hamzat, Kisha, Tyeana, Jason, Curtis, Anika, Fallon, Natasha, Ian, and Kendrick @rdsarch ) your work is appreciated!!!
