WHEN: Video released on November 11
WHERE: YouTube & Facebook @Koreaculturedc

The Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. (KCCDC) proudly announces OffStage: Ballet in Nature, a new series of outdoor dance performances launching November 11 at 6:00 p.m. with a cinematic production featuring American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Hee Seo in an original choreography performed in and inspired by the boundless beauty of nature.

Unrestrained by a traditional stage, Seo created this original dance inspired by the vastness of the sea, which serves as a dramatic backdrop for her performance. She draws on her vast creative experience as a world-class principal ballerina to capture an elegant sense of communion with nature, blending graceful movement and serene imagery designed to provide healing calm to casual observers and ballet aficionados alike.

[About the Series]
OffStage: Ballet in Nature introduces leading and principal Korean dancers from renowned ballet companies across the United States as they perform original works outdoors in novel, natural settings. Each video, presented in a short film format, will be available for Washingtonians and the broader public to view online free of charge. At a time when face-to-face interactions and formal performances remain limited, the KCCDC encourages global audiences to take time to relax and heal through the enjoyment of creative, nontraditional performances.

K-Art at Home: Su Hyun Nam, 2020 Korean Media Art Series

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXgsVDnptWY

K-Art at Home: Su Hyun Nam, the third virtual exhibition of the 2020 Korean Media Art Series, is now LIVE!
*
Five of the artist's multimedia works are now available to view on the KCCDC website through November 25 2020. To view the exhibition, http://washingtondc.korean-culture.org/en/1126/board/890/read/105221
*
Nam’s artwork presents a digitally woven landscape in which the coexistence of people and complex artificial environments is revealed through recompiled observations of city life. The abstracted scenes she portrays appear vaguely familiar at first, even pedestrian—quaint neighborhoods, urban skylines, and solitary trees—yet are distorted by swaths of manipulated pixels or shifting views spliced together.

*
Su Hyun Nam has exhibited her work, including interactive video installation, 3D game art, and multimedia performances, both nationally and internationally, including at venues in Spain, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Singapore, the United States, and Korea. She explores relationships with digital media using an artistic and meditative approach to computation that transcends nationality. Her community-based media art projects were showcased at Burchfield Penney Art Center and Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center in Buffalo, New York, and her papers have been presented at SIGGRAPH Asia in Japan and the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA) in Colombia. Nam earned an MFA in art and technology studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Transmedia at Syracuse University and a Ph.D. candidate in media studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo. For more information about the artist visit www.suhyunnam.com.
