The Rotary Club of Washington, DC is a volunteer organization for professional men and women. Our club conducts a lunch each week with a keynote speaker.

The Rotary Club of Washington, DC was founded as the 46th club of Rotary International. Our speakers have included Supreme Court Justices, high-ranking military officials, former Cabinet Secretaries, ambassadors and more. All Rotary Clubs operate under the same four ideas called The Four-Way Test. Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

This past Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C. had the pleasure of welcoming Director Lamont Carey, Director of the DC Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs, as our featured speaker.

Director Carey shared how lasting change begins with investing in people, highlighting the challenges many youth in underserved communities face, including access to basic necessities like daily meals. He also emphasized that his office is always open and available to support residents, nonprofits, and community organizations working to make a difference.

The discussion also sparked exciting ideas for future Community Service Grant projects, and Director Carey expressed his sincere appreciation for the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C.’s continued commitment to supporting local nonprofits through our annual grants program.

🕊️ Building Peace Through Community Action 🕊️

The Rotary Club of Washington, D.C.’s Peace Initiative Committee (DCPIC), led by Chairman Kenneth E. Barnes, Sr., proudly supported the inaugural Time4us2getinvolved Community Day at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.

This impactful event brought together community leaders, families, friends, and neighbors for a day focused on unity, engagement, and peace. Attendees enjoyed live performances, panel discussions, youth speakers, local vendors, giveaways, and great food—including a special appearance by Kamal Ali of Ben’s Chili Bowl.

Chairman Barnes was joined by DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb, Past President Donnie Shaw, and Past President William “Bill” Dent as they demonstrated Rotary’s commitment to creating lasting impact through service and collaboration.

Events like these reflect Rotary’s dedication to promoting Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention—one of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus—and our belief that stronger communities are built when people come together for a common purpose.

Together, we are uniting for good and creating a more peaceful future for our communities.

This past Wednesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Catherine Miller, Director of Programs at the U.S. Wheat Associates (USW), for an insightful presentation on the vital role American wheat plays in feeding communities around the world.

USW works to develop, maintain, and expand international markets for U.S. wheat, connecting American farmers with buyers in more than 100 countries through a global network of 15 overseas offices. Catherine shared how the organization supports trade, strengthens relationships with international partners, and helps showcase the quality, reliability, and value of U.S. wheat on the world stage.

It was a fascinating look into an industry that impacts both our nation’s economy and global food security, and we are grateful to Catherine for sharing her expertise and passion with our club.

🎉 And just like that, the 2026-2027 Rotary year is officially underway!

Today, the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C. gathered for our first meeting of the new term under the leadership of our new President, Todd Miller.

The meeting introduced President Todd’s Board of Directors, deputies, committee chairs and co-chairs, and project leaders, all of whom will help guide our Club’s mission of Service Above Self throughout the coming year. We are excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to see the impact these incredible leaders will make together.

A special thank you to our five guests who joined us today. We truly appreciate you taking the time to visit our Club, and we hope you experienced the warmth, fellowship, and spirit of service that make the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C. so special.

To our esteemed members, thank you for showing up to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter. Your dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment are what continue to make our Club one of the strongest and most impactful Rotary clubs in the world.

Aaaaaand that’s a wrap! 🎉

This past Sunday, our esteemed members of the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C. gathered for a cozy house party to celebrate our beloved President, Donnie Shaw, who has successfully concluded his 2025-2026 Rotary year.

Over the past year, President Donnie has led our club with dedication, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to Service Above Self. His leadership has strengthened our fellowship, inspired meaningful service, and left a lasting impact on our members and the communities we serve.

The evening was filled with laughter, great conversations, heartfelt stories, and plenty of memories shared among friends, both longtime Rotarians and newer members alike. It was the perfect way to reflect on a remarkable year and express our gratitude for everything Donnie has done for our club.

To President Donnie, thank you for your leadership, your generosity, and the countless hours you’ve devoted to making our club stronger. We wish you all the best as you pass the gavel and begin your next chapter as a Past President.
