For the first time, receipts and expenditures data dating back to 1793 is available on FiscalData.Treasury.gov.

This release combines historic records from multiple sources into one modern, accessible platform, giving the public a more complete picture of how the nation’s finances have evolved over time. 📊✨

Data now available includes:

🍫You’d think chocolate and federal spending have absolutely nothing in common… but you’d be surprised.

In honor of World Chocolate Day, we searched USAspending.gov for the keyword “chocolate” and discovered there are a lot of surprising results. 🤯

Ever heard of Chocolate Mountain? Chocolate Bayou? The West Chocolate Renewable Energy Project? Chocolate chip camouflage military uniforms?

Federal spending data has a way of uncovering unexpected stories and connections. That’s part of what makes exploring it so interesting.
