The National Institute of Prevarication (NIP) is "dedicated to the exposure and preservation of prevarication in public life." Don't get us wrong, we are not against lying, dissembling, evasiveness, etc. After all, without the prevaricators out there we truth-tellers here at the NIP wouldn't have our employment. (Many thanks to the stimulus package for our funding.) Who hasn't told the little white lie, etc.? And of course it is for the public good that our elected leaders lie to us. Our mission is to call attention to prevarication, regardless of the source. And not just lies (they can be so tedious), but half-truths, distortions, exaggerations, misleading statements, statistics, etc., all are of interest to the NIP. All forms of prevarication have one thing in common-- they attempt to influence others to the benefit of the prevaricator. Remember one thing: you only get the truth from us here at the Institute. Of course in today's world it is the journalists and politicians that are doing bulk of the heavy lifting. Prevaricating is a hard job, and we need to thank them for it. There is so much of it in public life we at the NIP can hardly keep track of it with our tiny organization. The Institute was founded with the new idea that a government agency could work with the public, not against it. We are dedicated to the proposition that the public should be in charge of discourse in American life, not lobbyists or politicians. We developed prevarication.net so that the you could control the content, not some paid government bureaucrats.
