Connolly and Fitzpatrick Introduce Resolution Honoring Public Service Workers

Committed public servants at the federal, state, and local levels, and servicemembers across the world, carry out the complex and vital business of operating and protecting our nation every day. Over the past year, these men and women have provided critical services and assistance to our constituents during an unprecedented global health pandemic.

We relied on them to distribute necessary economic aid to businesses and individuals struggling under the strain of that crisis. Others, despite great risk to their own lives, courageously continued to serve as first-responders, provide healthcare to veterans, deliver mail, inspect meat and poultry facilities, provide sanitation services, research cures for COVID-19, and deliver vaccines. These hardworking heroes live and serve in every community across America, and they deserve our gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

Thrilled to be there to hear President Biden deliver his first Joint Address to Congress. His speech was an exhortation filled with common sense dreams: Come on. Come together. Let’s get it done.

There were echoes of FDR in the House Chamber tonight.

Attended today’s rededication ceremony for the now John R. Lewis High School. John gave his life to equal rights even when he faced both jail time and death. This is a man we choose to honor, and let us never forget his legacy.

As April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), Congressman Connolly will be hosting a Sexual Assault Awareness Discussion tomorrow - Friday, April 23, 2021, at 3:00 pm. This event will offer a chance to raise awareness about sexual violence and domestic abuse and educate others on ways we can prevent sexual assault. We also want to share resources and legislative measures that are being taken to protect and defend those impacted by sexual assault.

Almost everyone either knows someone that has been affected by sexual assault or has been themselves. With horrifying statistics showing that 1 in 4 men and 1 in 3 women will be victims of sexual violence in their lifetime and that every 73 seconds an American is sexually assaulted, this issue is a public health crisis. It is critical that we have open and honest conversations about the culture and systems that have perpetuated these statistics and educate others on how we can prevent sexual assault and domestic abuse in our communities.

Congressman Connolly wants to welcome anyone who has been affected by sexual violence or anyone who wants to learn more about the issue and what they can do to help those affected. We would like to create a safe space where people are able to learn about how sexual assault affects our communities and the resources available.

The entire country bore witness to the murder of George Floyd. The jury believed their own eyes and rendered a just verdict.

But while justice prevailed this time, far too many Black lives have been cut short with no such accountability. We owe them real, structural change.

Today, as we prepared to mourn the anniversary of the massacre at Virginia Tech, we woke to news of yet another mass shooting in America, this time in Indianapolis.

I refuse to accept this status quo of endless grief. Americans are tired of nonstop gun violence. We are tired of racism & brutality in policing.

We are tired of mourning.

The House has answered the call for action. We passed universal background checks and the Justice in Policing Act this year. The Senate must finish the job.

This pandemic has forced 2.3 million women out of work. When they return, they'll still be paid 82 cents on average for every dollar paid to men.

It's wrong and it's completely unsustainable. We have to take action if we want any shot at a full and fair economic recovery.

The House will pass the Paycheck Fairness Act this week.

The Virginia General Assembly just voted to finalize the legalization of ma*****na, making us the first former Confederate state to do so.

House Adopts Connolly Amendment to VAWA Reauthorization Act

Today, the House passed the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, including my amendment to strengthen the 2016 Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights by providing survivors the right to be informed of the status and location of sexual assault evidence collection kits.

After a r**e kit is completed, too many survivors are left to wait for answers with little to no access to information about their kits. My amendment guarantees survivors the right to track the status and location of their kits.

Because while justice should always be blind, survivors should never be left in the dark.

I would like to know specifically why you voted YES to impeach former President Trump for his comments saying "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore," and "I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard." on January 6th, yet sanctioned Maxine Waters by voting NO to censure her for her comments saying "We're looking for a guilty verdict and we're looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd. If nothing does not happen, then we know that we got to not only stay in the street, but we have got to fight for justice," she added "We got to stay on the street. And we've got to get more active, we've got to get more confrontational. We've got to make sure that they know that we mean business," over this past weekend? How do you account for this other than it being a blatant double standard?
Congressman when will laws be passed that allow police to be held accountable for their actions. They should not be allowed to kill and harass at will. Pass a law removing qualified immunity.
Happy Birthday Gerry! Keep charging! And thanks for supporting putting a price on our carbon emissions.
Rep. Connolly, I ask for your support in urging the Biden Administration to lift the CDC's Framework for Conditional Sailing Order (CSO) and allow cruises to resume from U.S. ports by the beginning of July. The CSO, issued last October, reflects thinking from a very different time in the course of the pandemic and should be lifted to support resumption by July. Cruise is the only industry prohibited by the U.S. Government from operating, even as the industry has proven capable of doing so responsibly. Since last summer, nearly 400,000 passengers have sailed in Europe and parts of Asia, with fewer than 50 confirmed cases based on public reporting. A far lower incidence than on land. The year-long suspension of cruising in the U.S. has resulted in a loss of $39 billion and over 300,000 American jobs across multiple sectors, including port services, industry suppliers, hotels, travel advisors, airlines and beyond. The CSO should be lifted as soon as possible to revive these American jobs and allow sailing from U.S. ports, with proven measures in place, by July. Thank you for your support of this important issue.
As outlined in today's NY Times editorial page, I urge you to support Rep. Ro Khanna's Stop CHEATERS Act. What say you?
Shame on you, Congressman! When you neglect to take into account the welfare of the citizens of this country!
I have one question, let me start by saying I am a front line worker and I am 61 years old. I registered for my Covid19 shot here in Fairfax County over two months ago and have just been getting weekly don't worry your sill registered messages. I live in Burke. Please help me and tell me why a front line worker in his 60's has been put on an interminable wait list. I want to be part of the solution to this god awful crisis not part of the problem. Do I need to do something I am not doing, if so please tell me. I want and need my shot. Whatever you can do, thank you in advance. I am on Facebook and my email is [email protected]. Please help!
I have been seeing a few posts here and there on student loan forgiveness. Some are all for it and other are totally against it, but I think there is a huge benefit to the middle ground here I think the forgiveness should be on interest and the person is required to pay back principle in full. This way people don't have to work most of their career just to pay off preditory student loans. Paying it off this way would not cripple lending institutions and holds people accountable for their loan agreements, while also allowing for more disposable income to grow the economy. Plus more money available to buy houses which also helps lenders recoup from losses on the student loan interest. Additionally, perform an analysis of how much people have already paid in interest vs the total amount of their loan and a potion of that gets credited to principle. Finally, all forgiveness should include technical/vocational school, and there should be considerations of a credit to vocational students to encourage much needed technical workforce. I would love to see you as my representative come to the table with a plan with considerations like these to help people all over the country. I would also love to hear what you have to say on the matter.
Please read all of this I am a Christian. I have seen many prayers answers . United States is a great country people should not try to hurt it. Going against the police, open the borders, make the national debt. larger and larger are not good. Passing bills the will hurt our country is not good. Making illegal voting is not good to try to do thing like that is treason and hate for the United States. Try to do good for the United States please try. Democrats in differant place in the United States said they were not for these things. Democrats and republicans are not for these things.
from my 2010 campaign for US House of Representatives for the 11th distract of Virginia,, this is where I was 11 years ago,, I wonder if Trump's Republican Party has room for somebody who "arrives" a decade before everyone else,, or would I simply be an interloper who thinks he knows more than everyone else,, that's the only way people have ever treat me, like I think I know everything,, people always got an angle, too ugly, too good looking, too smart, too stupid, unless of course you're full of s**t,, they let ya in everywhere ya knock on the door if you're full of s**t,, so maybe not waste my time because I'm not a very good liar,, actually I am, a really good one, but running the country ain't no joke
Hey Gerry, Love you and miss you and I hope your doing well and staying safe...
