Secretary Marshall joined more than 300 nurses from Moldova and North Carolina today for the third in a series of Nursing Webinars on best practices in fighting COVID-19. The NC-Moldova Nursing Collaborative, which grew out of the NC-Moldova Partnership, continues to create opportunities for collaboration between nursing professionals in NC and Moldova. That’s never been more important than it is now, as this pandemic demonstrates that many of the biggest challenges we face transcend national boundaries.

Today's webinar included presentations from American Nurses Association President Ernest Grant; Dr. Deborah Lekan, Dr. Audrey Snyder and Dr. Nancy Hoffart with the UNC-Greensboro Nursing School; Nurses Association of the Republic of Moldova President Elena Stempovscaia; and Guilford County Department of Public Health Public Health Preparedness Manager Alyson Best.

Many thanks to the U.S. Embassy Moldova, Ambasada Republicii Moldova în SUA / Embassy of Moldova to the USA, the UNC-Greensboro Nursing School, and Cone Health for organizing today’s event. #MDNCStrongerTogether

ANNAPOLIS, MD—During ceremonies yesterday at the French Ambassador’s residence in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Embassy in Paris, Governor Larry Hogan and President Xavier Bertrand of the Hauts-de-France region in France signed a Sister State memorandum of understanding.

“I have always believed in the value and importance of looking outside our borders to build strong, productive, and mutually beneficial international partnerships,” said Governor Hogan. “We look forward to continuing to promote that with the people of Hauts-de-France for many years to come.”

"During the Hogan administration, the Sister State Program has been extremely proactive in showcasing Maryland on the global stage. While this subnational program has been in existence for 40 years we have taken it to a whole new level" said Secretary of State John C. Wobensmith. "We have a great team of volunteer Citizen Diplomats who are committed to Maryland the Sister States Program and developing international partnerships."

Governor Hogan was joined in Washington by Philippe Étienne, Ambassador of France in the United States; Consul General of France, Francois Penguilly; and Maryland Secretary of State John Wobensmith. The signing ceremony in Paris was attended by President Bertrand; Jamie McCourt, United States Ambassador in France; and Francois Decoster, Mayor of St. Omer.

Today we honor all those who have served, or currently serve, in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you for defending freedom, and thank you to your families who have supported you and stayed strong during your deployments. This Veterans Day, you won't see crowds waving flags along the parade routes or applauding at ceremonies across the State, but know that the people of Maine remember the sacrifices of veterans, from today and long ago. All State offices are closed today in recognition of Veterans Day and we encourage Mainers to consider donating and/or volunteering in support of veterans, or honoring them by making your community a better place.
