The National Urban League

🎉For #ThrowbackThursday, we want to reintroduce you to the FIRST Executive Director of the National Urban League, George Edmund Haynes, who served from 1911 to 1918.

🤜🏾🤛🏾 During his time with the National Urban League, he established the first Black social work training program at Fisk University.

🚨Through this program, he advocated for the creation of a pipeline of black social workers who could serve Urban League affiliates across the country.

Girl Up

Representation Matters

Today, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris made history as the first female, Black, and South Asian American to hold the office inspiring a generation to follow in her footsteps.

Through the eyes of girls across the country, including our very own Girl Up changemakers, you can see what it meant for the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants to be sworn in as the 49th Vice President of the United States, becoming the highest-ranking female politician in American history.

Vice President Harris was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina to serve on the highest court in the U.S.
