Esmeralda Ybarra Hetrick—Ms. Senior America 2019

Here's a message and video from Ms. Senior America Esmeralda Hetrick! Congratulations again on your crowning!

BEAUTY STARTS WITHIN. GRACE STARTS WITH GOD.
_________________________________________________________

This young Mexican girl from Galveston, Texas, would have NEVER dreamed of being Ms. Senior America...although I loved singing, performing and posing from an early age! One of my earliest memories is of singing and dancing for the family in the kitchen with a broomstick!
~~~
My first golden opportunity came in my senior year at Ball High, when I was asked to be Miss Maritime Day in 1971. I then represented Galveston in the Texas World Pageants of 1972 and 1973, where I placed as first runner-up in the former.
~~~

In 1983, after my first husband Max Moore passed away, I was invited to replace Vikki Carr for the opening show of Rich Little, where I was accompanied by my band and members of the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
~~~
I imagined a life full of singing and performing, but God had different plans.
~~~

Flash forward thirty years later, living in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, after a career in healthcare, community outreach/nonprofit work, publishing, and marketing consulting, I suddenly realized I had put my life dreams on hold. I had to do something to reconnect to my voice, and leverage all the experience I had in my community to help others to do the same! So after a little bit of prompting, I entered the Ms. Pennsylvania Senior America and won, then represented PA in the Ms. Senior America Pageant...and WON! (I still can’t believe it.)
~~~
It is now my great honor and privilege to represent the needs and concerns of seniors throughout the nation. My health insurance background of working with Medicare/Medicaid products, representing underserved and diverse communities, plus as the founder of a non-profit, Estamos Unidos of Pennsylvania, and owner of the region’s first bi-lingual newspaper, La Voz Latina Central of PA, I have spent decades listening to and responding to the needs of my community. Now, I can take those skills and services nationally.
~~~

My life philosophy statement for the Ms. Senior America Pageant is, “Don’t be defined by your circumstances.” Truly, I believe that is the mindset that got me through my humble beginnings from an immigrant family, to where I am today: Proud to be an American, and proud to represent the needs of Seniors.
~~~
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We all have a “song” to sing. I would love to hear about your story and your song. I would love to know what you think are the most pressing issues facing Seniors, our beloved national treasure, across America!
~~~

So, please, send me a message, and let’s connect!
