Action items, Ukraine in Brief, and the UCCA/UNIS e-News will be e-mailed to you as they are issued, with suggestions on how to best contact your elected officials with your comments and concerns. Information on Ukrainian Days and other events will also be provided. Sponsor a UNIS Intern. The cost of sponsoring a UNIS intern is roughly $2,000 per semester. Your contribution of $250 or more will help subsidize UNIS' cost and provide an intern with the opportunity to learn how to impact U.S. policy-making. You may also wish to organize your group or business to sponsor and intern from your local community. Please contact UNIS for more information. UNIS Internship: UNIS offers an active and rewarding internship program in Washington, DC for college students. Interns learn about current issues and developments in Ukraine through involvement in government and private sector activities. UNIS' program offers students the opportunity to earn college credit (where applicable) while observing the daily deliberations of Congress on issues concerning foreign policy decisions of the United States government. Through their experiences, interns learn how to impact U.S. policy-making, especially with regard to issues of interest to the Ukrainian American community. Mission: UNIS acts as a liaison office of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of American (UCCA) facilitating interaction between the Ukrainian community and Members of Congress, administration officials, the mass media, and think tank organizations. Working to enhance the participating and visibility of the Ukrainian American community in the U.S. political processes and government activities pertaining to Ukraine, UNIS cooperates with such groups as the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus (CUC) which was founded in 1997 through UNIS' efforts.

As has been traditional during presidential election years, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and its Washington, DC bureau - the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) - send a presidential questionnaire to the major candidates for president of the United States. This year, the two campaigns have responded with their overview of U.S. relations with Ukraine.

Elections 2020 - A Questionnaire

As has been traditional during presidential election years, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and its Washington, DC bureau - the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) - send a presidential questionnaire to the major candidates for president of the United States. This year, the presidential questionnaire presents five key foreign policy questions pertaining to Ukraine and Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Tuesday, November 3, 2020 will be presidential and congressional elections, plus a multitude of state and local elections. It is an opportunity to be heard on a variety of issues important to our community. Below (and attached) please find an infographic questionnaire for use by the community in interacting with your congressional candidates vying for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives or U.S. Senate. Please engage with the congressional candidates and make the voice of the Ukrainian community heard.

With 30 days before the national and local elections in the United States, the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS), the Washington bureau of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), reminds everyone that your vote is your voice as an American citizen. It is your opportunity to be heard on a variety of issues important to you. Your vote also allows you to have a say in important issues that affect our community.

This year will be presidential and congressional elections, plus a multitude of state and local elections. States are continuing their voter registration drive for citizens. As every vote is important, attached please find a Voter Registration flyer.

Visit https://www.eac.gov/voters/register-and-vote-in-your-state to learn about the requirements for your state and ensure that your voice is heard.

The functions of UNIS include: Advocating Ukrainian American issues of interest and concern to government officials in Washington, DC. - Promoting sustained levels of U.S. foreign assistance to Ukraine. - Voicing the community's opinion on important matters. UNIS' ACTION ITEMS provide timely information and offer recommendations on how best to advocate our concerns. Repealing the Jackson-Vanik amendment for Ukraine is just one example of the success of our efforts. - Tracking legislation that affect Ukraine and our community. UNIS advocated passage of a bill to construct a monument on federal land in Washington, DC to honor the victims of the Ukrainian Genocide of 1932-1933. - Enhancing the participation and visibility of Ukrainian Americans in the legislative process. UNIS annually organizes "Ukrainian Days" in Washington, DC to offer community representatives the opportunity to meet with their elected officials in the U.S. Congress and discuss priorities of our community. Briefing sessions, breakfast with members of the CUC, and receptions at the Embassy of Ukraine offer additional opportunities for discussion and debate. Strengthen the Bilateral relations between the United States and Ukraine - Facilitating meetings for Ukrainians with their U.S. counterparts - Organizing video conferences between the U.S. and Ukrainian law makers. This innovative program bring together members of the U.S. Congress and Ukraine's Parliament to discuss issues of concern and interest, bolstering mutual understanding and ties between the two legislatures. Maintaining Active Media Relations To Provide Timely Information and In-Depth Analysis of Ukrainian Issues - providing commentary and analysis on current issues and events - issuing timely Ukraine In Brief reports to lawmakers, administration officials, policy-makers, and members of the community summarizing recent news from and about Ukraine.
