In our teens, we dreamed of making peace in the Middle East. Then my friend was shot

This is a powerful piece by Roy Cohen, an alumnus of one of our founding members Seeds of Peace. It charts the last three tragic decades of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Roy's experience with his fellow Seeds and his friendship with Aseel Aslih-- shot dead by Israeli police in October 2000 while wearing his Seeds of Peace shirt-- at the beating heart of that story.

Today's young Israelis and Palestinians deserve to feel that same sense of hope and optimism in their shared futures that Aseel, Roy, Alia and Tarek felt before the violence and injustice of the Second Intifada. They deserve to cross physical and cultural borders that they feel are gradually blurring. And they deserve leaders as committed to peace and equality as these brave young people were.

$250 million won't end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But it's a start | Opinion

As USAID prepares to roll out the first round of funding (through MEPPA) for peacebuilding work in the region, ALLMEP Regional Director, Huda Abuarquob, and ALLMEP Founder and President, Avi Meyerstein, wrote this piece in Haaretz.

“Can peace ever happen without active public support? In the past, the world tried to advance peace almost exclusively with billions in top-down diplomacy, security, and economic development. Efforts to bring the public along were limited in scale and airily dismissed as nice, but not necessary.”

$250 million won't end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But it's a start | Opinion

"Cynical about the so-called 'peace industry'? Don’t believe the clichés, or the slurs. Thanks to massive new U.S. funding, Israeli-Palestinian peacebuilding programs are about to demonstrate what a difference they can make." #MEPPA's $250 million program "is a big moment, a new chapter we should have opened long ago. Carrying forward the old cynicism only keeps us trapped in the lose-lose status quo. There is nothing naive about believing that people can assert control over their own destinies, and there is certainly no shame in finally giving them the tools and support to do it."

ALLMEP's Avi Meyerstein and Huda Abuarquob on the launch of MEPPA, and the "long-term, strategic change" that it can unlock.
