D.C. Ranks in Bottom Quintile of New Save the Children Childhood Report

What’s scarier is when you dig deeper: There are massive discrepancies in outcomes between DC’s children of color and their white peers across nearly all metrics of well being.

The cause ? Systemic racism and unequal access to opportunity.

As DC moves forward in our FY21 budget process we hope you’ll remember budgets are moral documents.

This is our chance to take action; and ensure sound investments in DC’s children and youth of color.

The report considers rates of malnutrition, education, teen pregnancy, and early death.

In January of 2017, we committed to being adaptive to our changing local and national landscape. Through a conversation with our community and supporters, we heard a demand for an authentic engagement pathway for youth and young leaders.

We began building capacity to address that need. Help us sustain that effort and support ongoing youth led advocacy and youth leadership by #GivingLIkeALocal on this Giving Tuesday. $10, $15, $25 dollar gifts can go far when everyone gives- so show your support today with a small gift, and by sharing this opportunity with 2 friends!

Good News! DC Action for Children and DC Alliance of Youth Advocates Have Merged!

It is our pleasure to announce the merger between DC Action for Children and DC Alliance of Youth Advocates. Under the leadership of Kimberly Perry, Executive Director of DC Action for Children, the unified organization is fully operational and working towards a cohesive strategic plan for the future. We are fortunate to have the support of DCAYA’s Maggie Riden as a consultant during our transition.

Over the past year, many of you have expressed support for this merger. We appreciate your confidence. As leaders in public policy and advocacy on behalf of children and youth, we pledge our continued commitment to use data-driven analysis and the lived experience of parents and young people to inform the creation of policies and programs that break down structural barriers and allow every young person to reach their full potential.

We firmly believe that this merger will result in a stronger advocacy voice for our kids, particularly children and youth who are regularly denied opportunities due to systemic racism, discrimination and bias. By blending our respective areas of focus and unique strengths, we believe we can achieve bigger and bolder outcomes for kids in the District of Columbia.

Together we will:
