$3 billion a day just to service the debt. This doesn't even pay down the debt. So far this year, our deficit is SMALLER than it was in the same period last year, but interest is paid on debt accumulated over years.

"Outlays for net interest on the public debt rose by $41 billion (or 7%) because the debt was larger than it was in the first seven months of fiscal year 2025."

$113.5 million in improper payments were prevented and recovered in just the first year of the Treasury Department’s Do Not Pay system pilot using full Social Security death data.

This pilot achieved a return on investment of roughly 23 times the cost. The full 3-year pilot is projected to deliver over $337 million in net benefits.

In February 2026, Congress and the President made this important tool permanent by signing into law the sharing of full Social Security death data with the Do Not Pay system.

When strong checks like this are in place, they help keep essential programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid strong and sustainable for the families and seniors who truly need them, while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars.

Recent efforts by the Treasury Department’s Do Not Pay system helped prevent, detect, and recover $11.7 billion in improper payments in Fiscal Year 2025 alone, simply by catching issues before payments were made.

The national debt hit $39 trillion this week.
This debt was created over 25 years. It is what happens when a government consistently spends more than it takes in.

The frustrating part isn’t that the answers are hidden. They aren’t. Stop losing $175 billion a year to fraud and improper payments. The technology to catch this exists.
