Hello Your Excellency Any programs like fully funded leadership programs (Short Courses) available to foreign Nationals?
Secretary Royce, I have just been informed that you or your department has decided to cancel the FLEX & YES program for the school year of 2020-21. As a 11 yr host parent and the spouse of a local coordinator I have to say that 1) I am not surprised & 2) very disappointed in the decision. The organizations (people) who work in conjunction with the program work tirelessly to find host families and schools for the exchange students. Yes they are compensated for their time, once the student arrives, but your department left ALL of them hanging on to hope that students would arrive in January. While I am sure that the decision was made with much consideration the ramifications of such a decision at the last minute seems to show little regard for how much time is put into the work that has to be done on the ground by the local coordinators. My wife along with all of the others have put in countless hours initially finding homes for students, then being told that they were not coming at the beginning of the school year, being told that only a select number of students would be allowed to arrive when others had already been selected by host families having to begin the process over again and now be told that the program has been cancelled. Had your department said back in August that the program would be shut down for the coming school year that would've made the decision easier to accept and yet you gave them some hope, caused them to literally work double the amount of time and then cut the cord. Now these coordinators will have to go back to families who decided to host and tell them AGAIN that there will be no program. How many families this affects U.S. wide I couldn't say how many families (first timers) will say no to the next time they are approached because of the sour taste this leaves in their mouths. Goodwill only goes so far and this program lives on the goodwill of citizens like myself and my wife to make it happen.
