A wonderful opportunity to participate in our democracy and honor the service and sacrifice of Post-9/11 Veterans. If you have any questions, please feel to reach out to Mr. George Chewning (a graduate student here at GW) directly at [email protected].
Join fellow GW student veteran George Chewning and the Global War on Terror Memorial Foundation as they partake in a two-day lobbying push for legislative support on April 24th and 25th.
Here's a little information from Mr. Chewning - "A two-day lobbying push for support of our legislation, the Global War on Terrorism War Memorial Act. HR 873 and the forthcoming bill in the Senate sponsors our organization to undertake the fundraising, site selection, design solicitation, and advocacy for a memorial in DC for the GWOT conflict. As the conflict enters its 16th year, we believe that the time is now to begin the work of a national memorial so that our generation of Veterans, their families, and all those who have supported the war effort can have a place to honor, heal, educate, and remember.
The lobbying event is April 24th and 25th and begins with a crash course in citizen-lobbying and a more in-depth explanation of our cause and current progress. Participants will then speak with legislators and their staff during scheduled meetings to garner support for the Memorial. This is a chance for Veterans to explain what a national memorial would mean to them and why they support the effort. I believe this will be a great opportunity for Veterans to learn about advocacy, the political process, and current Veteran issues in government. Additionally, we will provide meals and transportation for all participants."
