Karen, who retired last month, had been with NREL for 27 years, working in our DC office as a liaison between the lab and Federal agencies. For more than 20 years, she lead the Utility Energy Service Contracts, building and sustaining public-private partnerships.

In the past decade, #PumpedStorageHydropower (PSH) has added significant capacity: by the end of 2019, PSH accounted for 93% of utility-scale storage capacity in the U.S. Net PSH capacity increased by 1,333 MW from 2010 to 2019; the remaining increase came from upgrades to six existing PSH plants: Castaic (CA), Northfield Mountain (MA), Muddy Run (PA), Bad Creek (SC), Fairfield (SC), and Jocassee (SC).
