AFSCME’s municipal and federal sector locals complete merger: Nearly three dozen AFSCME locals gathered on September 8th as AFSCME District Council 20 convened a historic Special Convention which saw the passage of amendments to its constitution and an election of officers which were the culminating steps of a merger of its DC municipal and federal sector locals. With 32 locals represented at the gathering, the convention united all the AFSCME unions in the District of Columbia under one banner, to form a united, powerful voice for working people in the region. “It is imperative that District Council 20 continues to grow and becomes a beacon of light and hope for our members,” said Andrew Washington, Executive Director of Council 20. “We must remain committed, responsive and adaptable in a time that presents old and new challenges for organized labor…From this merger, we will rise like a Phoenix, forged by fire, stronger and better.”

AFSCME DC COUNCIL 20, WOULD LIKE TO INFORM ALL FOLLOWERS OF THIS PAGE, THAT THE PAGE WILL BE DISCONTINUED IN THE NEAR FUTURE AND WE ENCOURAGE ALL TO FOLLOW THE COUNCILS OFFICAL FACEBOOK PAGE Afscme Washington DC. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE !!!!
On a late Friday afternoon before a holiday, the current Administration launched a new attack against the rights of federal workers. This move to limit the voices of federal workers across our nation is an attack upon democracy itself: their goal is an at-will federal workforce that they can staff with their cronies, undoing the Civil Service protections that ensured nonpartisan, merit-based appointment and promotion of qualified people in the public service. Federal unions are here for a reason - they are the voice of the dedicated employees who do the work of our nation.
