Seeking Volunteer Video-Editing Assistance

Our Advisory Neighborhood Commission is seeking someone with video-editing experience who can help us, or show us how to, blur an individual’s face in a short video involving an emergency response. We may need to do this in the future as well.

We want to ensure that any footage shared for public-information purposes respects the privacy and dignity of the person receiving assistance. We also want to ensure that we are providing clear examples of how we are helping one another as a community.

Anyone who has the ability or resources and is willing to assist, please let me know.

DC Water has announced a major milestone in repairing the Potomac Interceptor, one of the region's most important sewer lines. This work comes after the catastrophic sewer line failure earlier this year that resulted in one of the largest sewage spills in U.S. history. The latest repairs strengthen the aging infrastructure while reducing the need for large-scale excavation and disruption.

So why should Ward 8 residents care?

✅ Protecting Our Waterways: The Potomac River and the Anacostia River are connected ecosystems. Investments in sewer infrastructure help reduce pollution, improve water quality, and protect the environment that all District residents share.

✅ Public Health: Modernizing our wastewater system helps reduce the risk of sewage overflows that can threaten public health and contaminate local waterways.

✅ Infrastructure Investment: This project highlights the importance of maintaining and upgrading critical infrastructure before failures occur. As Ward 8 continues to grow and develop, reliable water and sewer infrastructure will be essential to supporting new housing, businesses, and community facilities.

This is a reminder that investments in infrastructure may not always make headlines, but they have a direct impact on our quality of life, our environment, and the future of our communities.

Today, DC Water broke ground on the Piney Branch Tunnel, the final major tunnel in our Clean Rivers Project. This work will help keep sewage and trash out of local waterways and make Rock Creek, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay cleaner for our community.

Although this year’s budget cycle and primary elections are over, our advocacy is not.

We don’t have to wait until an issue becomes popular before we mobilize and organize our communities. In fact, this is the time when the real work begins. This is where ideas are refined, strategies are developed, relationships are strengthened, and movements are built.

Real change doesn’t happen only during election season. It happens through consistent organizing, education, and action throughout the year.
