Books for America needs bookstore help
(Washington, DC)

Books for America is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC. We take donated books and use them to build libraries in local schools, shelters, prisons and many other places. We sell some of the books at our used bookstore at 22nd & P - that's how we support our organization.

We have a full-time position available for a van driver to pick up books from donors' houses, deliver books to our warehouse, help at the bookstore, etc. etc. Driving our van picking up and delivering books will take up about 75% of your time, the rest of the time you'll be working here in the store doing typical bookstore duties. Picking up books at donors' houses or offices involves going through the books and selecting the ones that are useful for our programs - we'll train you on what to look for. If you like books this is a fun job - we get many amazing book donations. Fair warning, bins full of books are heavy so while it is fun, it is also reasonably hard work.

The position is perfect for a recent college grad or a graduate student. Of course we'll consider others as well.

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week salaried position. The pay is $13 per hour ($26,000 per year). You will be based out of our store in DC, and your hours will primarily be Tuesday-Saturday 9am-5:30pm. Three weeks vacation/sick leave, no other benefits. We will only hire someone who can stay with us for a while - preferably 6 months or more. We do a good amount of training, so please only apply if you are willing to commit for a decent amount of time.

Requirements:
Ability to lift bins full of books - approx. 30-35lbs - repeatedly throughout the day
Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record
College education - you will be sorting through a lot of books - an education is a must
Police clearance - because we work with children and pick up items from people's houses we will run a complete police background check on you.
You must be outgoing, friendly and organized.

We work hard but have a lot of fun doing what we do, and most importantly, at the end of the day we leave work knowing we made a difference in the lives of thousands of people.

Send your resume to jobs(at)booksforamerica(dot)org.
