Lawn Ward Days - National Building Museum

The National Building Museum is hosting the Summer Block Party installation, "LAWN", and we're happy to invite you to Ward 2 Day. Each Ward is given a specific day, and July 30th is Ward 2 Day from 9am until 11am. Just bring your ID with your Ward 2 address and you will be admitted free of charge.

This year, NBM is asking for you to RSVP if you plan to attend by clicking on this link https://www.nbm.org/lawn-ward-days/

The exhibit opens to the general public at 10am, so Ward 2 residents are getting a 'sneak peak' an hour earlier than usual opening times.

D.C. residents are invited on their corresponding Ward Day and meet their D.C. Council representatives and receive complimentary admission to Lawn. Explore our newest summer exhibition, hear from and play with community partners, and enjoy story time with DC Public Library.

An important message from the Department of Public Works:

With temperatures on the rise and expected to remain high throughout the day, the Department of Public Works (DPW) employees are continuing to deliver solid waste and parking enforcement services to the public while also heeding the following vital safety precautions to remain safe while working outdoors in this extreme heat:

Drink plenty of water.
Take ample breaks as necessary to rest and cool down.
Alert their supervisor if feeling unwell.
Stay alert for signs of heat-related illnesses.

As a reminder, trash and recycling crews started their summer daily collection hours one hour earlier at 6 am, which will continue through the summer. To make sure trash and recycling are out for pick-up at the earlier time, DPW’s customers can put their items out starting at 6:30 pm the day before their collections are to be made. The Ft. Totten Transfer Station will be open to the public between 1 pm and 5 pm.

Parking enforcement employees (ticket writers, booters and tow crane operators) also received water during their rollcalls and more water will be provided by supervisors as needed. The Blue Plains Impoundment and Storage Facility is following its normal hours, 8 am to 6 pm.

The public may experiences slight delays in certain services especially as the temperatures continually rise to ensure crews are safe, provided with ample breaks and remain hydrated during this extreme heat.

When the temperature or heat index in the District reaches 95 degrees, District Government, through the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA), will implement the Heat Emergency Plan and activate cooling centers for residents to seek relief. Residents needing a cool place are encouraged to use any library or recreation center during their normal business hours, or the Adams Place Day Center. The Department of General Services (DGS) advises caution when using recreational services throughout the District during a heat emergency; learn more about safety guidelines at dgs.dc.gov.

For information about services provided during an Extreme Heat Warning, go to heat.dc.gov or call the Mayor’s Citywide Call Center by dialing 311. Residents can register to receive Heat Emergency alerts on their devices at alertdc.dc.gov.

This morning I stopped by the Friends of Stead Park’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Over 400 people registered to hunt for eggs and meet the Easter Bunny. It’s successful events like this that show how invested the community is in this park. I’m proud that $5 million is invested in the FY2020 budget to build a new center at the park, renovate the playground and basketball court.

Earlier today Mayor Bowser signed the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Emergency Act of 2018 to enact the WMATA Dedicated Funding Fund.

Achieving a dedicated funding source for Metro is truly a historic occasion. These resources will ensure the viability of Metro for the region. I want to thank my colleagues on the council, Chairman Mendelson, Mayor Bowser, and every person who worked hard to reach this moment.

Check this out Jack....
Thanks for all the years serving to this city. I support you.....
Jack Evans Seriously Jack, Posted on my FB Page with an @ to you but want to ensure you see it. Do you want to be the person Donald Trump uses as an excuse to run for President if he were to be impeached? I can just see it now. "Jack Evans is doing it so why can't?" I supported you for DC City Council in the past and voted for you each time you ran for Mayor. .But it is time for you to move on and let your ego get in the way. You would have been removed from the DC City Council if you had not resigned. I am not sure why you think they would welcome you back or let you head any worthwhile committees. My guess is that you are hoping to pull a Marion Barry and pull enough votes in a race with far too many other opponents. What you will accomplish is to possibly divide the voters of Ward Two. Hopefully, the ward will quickly gather around one candidate to oppose you if you follow through and run. The fact that you could be facing an indictment from the federal government does not help either. I, like many others, appreciate your past service but believe you can best serve this city in some other position at this time. This ward has changed drastically since you last ran for office four years ago. Your identity with many new voters is going to be tied to your ethical challenges and not your past accomplishments.
Happy New Year
Hang in there
No wonder you don’t want to go before the Committee and answer any questions “I have decided there really should be no reason to duplicate these questions and answers and appear before the Committee” says the crooked, corrupt politician who has done nothing but enrich himself and friends off the Citizens of the District of Columbia, as they live in the worst run, violent, vermin infested City in the Country. What a disgrace, that a man in Politics for decades in this City and is one of the main reasons the District of Columbia is at the top of the list as the most violent, dirty, drug infested politically corrupt City in the Country. Congratulations Jack, you’ve made yourself rich and wealthy while those around you live in disgusting conditions and squalor, great job you’ve done,,for yourself. No wonder you won’t answer any questions where the public is involved, how could you look them in their faces, much less take questions about all the corruption and promoting your own self worth, how could you possibly look at those people you have laughed at and stepped on and over to live the privileged life you and yours live, disgusting and disgraceful without a doubt. Yeah I guess you don’t want to be asked questions, who would if they had all the disgraceful baggage you have following them all over DC, yeah better off hiding from any p***c questions Jack, good move for you, as usual. A disgrace to this City and Country, what a shame for the people of DC to have this in Office for them, what a shame...
Hang in the my darling
Pimps would be allowed to legally traffic women and children in the s*x trade under the Community Safety and Health Amendment Act of 2019 B23-0318. Women and children will be further marginalized into a life not of their choosing and forced into the s*x trade. They will be called “Sex Workers” which sanitizes the whole human trafficking industry, making it sound palatable to society. Please ask yourself if this is the future you want for your sister, your daughter and your son.
I oppose this heinous and disgusting bill The “Community Safety and Health Amendment Act of 2019 B23-0318.
Go Trump!!! Go Barr!!!!
Hang in there my friend. I have faith in you.
Greetings, Councilman Evans. I am one of your constituents and I live on the 1300 block of Corcoran Street. It is a narrow street, and people who seem to want to use the block for a speedway get frustrated when others are moving in and out of vehicles. Is there a way to post a sign on these narrow one way streets to remind folks that these are residential neighborhoods, that they should be prepared to wait as people are entering and exiting vehicles, and that they should limit their honking because it does not make anything move any faster. Not the greatest priority for the council, but something that you, as our Ward 2 leader, could certainly take on to improve the quality of life of our constituents!
