Anthony Lorenzo Green

Anthony Lorenzo Green Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner 7C04. DC native, Deanwood raised, fighter for working families. #Ward7Made

Anthony Lorenzo Green is a third generation Washingtonian, born at Howard University Hospital on the 23rd of November in 1985, and raised in Ward 7 by his grandmother in the oldest African-American neighborhood in the city, Deanwood. Lorenzo graduated from Merritt Elementary Extended School in 1999 (now MPD 6th District Police Station) and attended H.D. Woodson Senior High School (Academy of Finance & Business in the 9th & 10th grade) in Northeast, D.C. Lorenzo has come a long way from the days of despair and lost hope in his childhood. During a period of much struggle, poverty, and homelessness, battling the everyday obstacles became a training course on how to survive in today’s world. Lorenzo is a product of the failures of our DC Public School system of the past. After fighting his way through the daily battles at the great H.D. Woodson during the last years of the "Tower of Power," it became difficult for him and many others to be committed to bettering themselves in the educational system that existed. By the time he reached the 12th grade, Lorenzo had no passion or concern for his education and dropped out of high school. Luckily, Lorenzo had a praying grandmother who urged him to get his GED the following year and make changes in his life. Because of her steady hand and abundance of unconditional love, the problems he faced and the lessons she taught him lead to a journey of public service. His grandmother prefers to describe it as “doing the Lord’s work.” Lorenzo began to hear God's call to serve back in 2009 when he moved into his first apartment in Southeast, D.C. Residents in the Fort Stanton and Hillsdale communities in Ward 8 saw the fire in his belly throughout many community meetings and urged him to take a stand. With an incumbent that took the people's trust for granted, Lorenzo took up the challenge to #dosomething in 2012 and put his name forward as a candidate for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) for Single Member District (SMD) 8B04. With 70% of the vote, Lorenzo was elected to his first term as an ANC Commissioner, then ran unopposed in 2014 in his reelection to a second term. In January 2015, Lorenzo was appointed by his fellow commissioners as the Chairman of ANC 8B, charging a new course of fiscal responsibility and putting the needs of the community first. Lorenzo also served on the executive board for the Fort Stanton Civic Association as the Sergeant-at-Arms, proudly casting his delegate vote to keep Deanwood Citizens Association's membership in good standing with the D.C. Federation of Civic Associations in 2013. On April 20, 2016, Lorenzo officially resigned from ANC 8B due to a long planned move back to Deanwood, the community that helped mold him into the man he is today. After the urging of his family and many childhood friends, Lorenzo announced in August 2016 that he would answer the call again to serve as an ANC Commissioner for SMD 7C04. With so many economic forces suppressing the will of hardworking families throughout our city, he believes this is no time to sit on the sideline. Lorenzo is seeking creative ways to make a change in our community and there is no better opportunity than today to encourage everyone to stand up and answer the call to change the direction of our city, starting from the ground up. In December of 2014, Lorenzo received a Mighty Men of Valor Award from the Angels of Hope Ministries for his contribution as a life changer for many families in the communities he served in Southeast. Lorenzo will fight to change lives throughout Deanwood, Ward 7, and many working families in the District who were here in the good times and bad. If you don’t stand in your truth and fight for what you believe in, then you are essentially oppressing yourself. That is the motto Lorenzo lives by and the creed he stands on to serve our Ward 7 communities. Anthony Lorenzo Green is a native Washingtonian, living in Deanwood in Ward 7. While proudly serving as a community leaderand activist, Lorenzo also works in the Office of Unemployment Compensation at the Department of Employment Services as an Unemployment Compensation Claims Examiner.

Y'all are going to learn to stop disrespecting Black folks that have been doing this work way before a white person opened their mouths to claim to be an ally. Poverty don't create much space for people to make good decisions and to thrive without needing to cut their own down to survive. We're so caught up in our individualism, like capitalism has taught us, we ignore the collective thats been dying from oppressive systems we uphold. Policy kill more Black folks than we kill ourselves. From guns to housing, many before us have been preaching about why our communities are the way they are. Its imperative that we dismantle the whole system of oppression.

07/06/2020

Our history tells us our journey and how lessons are repeated. I see the rage across social media. But when y'all ready to do something different to save our babies, let me know. Don't sit in the house and ask who in the streets and where somebody else at...when you're not. Don't push disrespectful memes saying this the new niggas killing babies and not the old niggas...when mothers that have lost children every year, every decade, every generation will tell you that's a lie. Stop trying to avoid the accountability you seek for your own people. Policy kill more Black folks than we kill ourselves. Policies that demand we give all our money to the police that was never created to keep Black people safe. We choose to spread misinformation about defunding police being created by white people or non-residents because you refuse to learn and acknowledge the history of Black abolitionists that paved this path for us today. We don't take the time to learn our history, learn how we got here, learn more about ourselves...while knowing our ancestors are watching. But we're complacent with the status quo and get mad at others who defiantly fight for freedom and liberation for pointing it out. A generational lie based on generational trauma that is the result of intentional racist policies that have divested from Black lives for generations. But the safest communities don't have the most cops, they have the most resources.

I'm a DC native that has seen too much blood and attended too many funerals of children in boxes. My mental health can't take anymore.

The push to reform police departments through additional funding has failed to prevent these senseless murders in our communities time and time again. Mayor Bowser wants to continue spending over a half a billion dollars on Washington Metropolitan Police Dept. with more funding in her FY21 budget. Minneapolis has already committed to disbanding its police department in favor of funding community-centered solutions for public safety. Why can’t DC?

Defunding police & investing in community resources is how we move towards freedom. DC has the highest incarceration rates and the most police per capita in the country. Defunding police means funding police-free schools, crisis workers and safety responders, cooperatively-owned grocery stores, public housing, and healthcare for our communities.

No more lip service. No more publicity stunts. No more hypocrisy. Black Lives Matter Plaza is filled with cops. MPD and United States Park Police are still working hand-in-hand to brutalize protestors exercising their first amendment rights.

This week has been filled with sadness when we know you should be here. Nearly one year after your death, your spirit is still here fueling the fires of liberation and determination. You help light this match...and now we're witnessing an uprising across this country. Who would have thought we would be having a conversation today about defunding DC Police. The same DC Police that wasn't ready for your defiance against their terrorism...and in my opinion...they're to blame for you not being here today. I lay that at their feet with no shame because we know how they move and how targeted their destruction can be.

But tomorrow, I commit to be filled with joy and honor your memory. When Black people are under attack, what do we do? We stand up and fight back! You did just that. You a Deanwood legend, brova.

We have every right to fight for the world we want to live in.

For years, we have invested more money into policing than we have on mental health, affordable housing, employment services and education. It's beyond time to attack the root causes of violence in our communities and divest from a racist institution that was never built to keep us safe.

"Reform" is not enough. Changing laws is not enough. We really have to do the work to reimagine what safety is for us without relying on police to address needs they are not responsible for. It is by design that Black and Brown communities have experienced so much turmoil. Gun violence, mass incarceration, "War on Drugs," redlining, generations of broken families, etc.

When we say the whole damn system is guilty as hell, we mean that sh*t. That's why we say Black Lives Matter.

The ward 7 council member and the best is yet to come. I have seen some great things and heard great things about you. I have been telling over thee in ward 7 to elect as there council member as the newly elected person. You will the next come Tuesday night after the polls close. I have pray on your victory on that night. Praise for you and the rest of ward 7 as well. I have proclaim your victory on this night with his help over a few things. Let break for a lunch after Tuesday 6/2/2020.
I didn’t know my previous ANC commissioner was deleting people he has a difference of opinion with. I guess I’ll just start going to the meeting to make sure my family’s voice is heard.
"She said, contrary to what you hear from the police chief and mayor, getting rid of illegal guns on the street does not address the real problem. “Those guns have been around,” she said. “The real problem is these communities Ward 7, 8, parts of Ward 1 and 5 have been neglected; they (city leaders) really haven’t put the services and programming in these communities to support families.”"
📢📢📢📢📢
I'm proud of ACLU DC for continuously standing strong with #Deanwood.
Green says he was not inciting violence—he was actually trying to prevent it. He also disagrees that he has avoided working with the police. He says he can sense that the community is reaching a boiling point, and he was trying to warn police that they may face violence if they don’t change their tactics. “There are a lot of people, members of our community, who are telling me they’re drawing a line in the sand. They’re tired of being harassed and treated as criminals no matter where they are or what they’re doing,” Green tells DCist. “There are going to be folks who possibly fight back. People are saying they’re tired of being Martin [Luther King Jr.] and they’re going to be Malcolm X. I’m hearing that more and more.” A report released this week by the ACLUfound that, while black residents represent 47 percent of the city’s population, they account for 86 percent of people arrested by D.C. police. Green points to the violent confrontations that took place last year on Sheriff Road in Deanwood after a controversial stop-and-frisk of several men in front of Nooks Barbershop. He said after that incident, he worked hard to discourage people from acting on their anger toward MPD, and felt he was successful. “This year, I’m not as hopeful, and it’s going to be difficult to hold people back from acting on the anger and the feelings they have when MPD walks up and puts their hands on individuals,” Green says.
Tony Green is a coward who hides behind law enforcement and behind a desk.
Your a piece of sh*t
Translation: She's flooding east of the river with more police while being half-assed with her "commitment" to violence prevention. Last summer on repeat.
