Lindsey Graham has earned a reputation as a conservative problem-solver and one of the strongest proponents of a robust national defense. A frequent visitor to American troops stationed overseas for on-the-ground assessments, Graham has consistently pushed for outcomes in the War on Terror which protect our long-term national security interests. One leading conservative recently wrote that when it comes to defending America, "[Lindsey] Graham has been right about more things on foreign policy for longer than just about anyone…if anyone has bragging rights on foreign policy, it is Graham." Graham is also a leader in cutting spending, reforming entitlements, and getting government out of the way so businesses can create jobs. One national conservative organization called him a Taxpayer Hero who puts "the interests of the taxpayer ahead of politics by consistently voting to cut wasteful spending, reduce the tax burden, and make government more accountable to taxpayers." Graham was elected to the United States Senate in 2002 and was re-elected in 2008 and 2014. He became - and remains today - the top vote-getter in South Carolina history by garnering over one million votes in the 2008 general election. Prior to serving in the Senate, Graham was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 as the first Republican from the Third Congressional District of South Carolina since 1877. Before being elected to Congress, Graham compiled a distinguished record in the United States Air Force as he logged six-and-a-half years of service on active duty as an Air Force lawyer. From 1984-1988, he was assigned overseas and served at Rhein-Main Air Force Base in Germany. Upon leaving active duty Air Force in 1989, Graham joined the South Carolina Air National Guard where he served until 1995. During the first Gulf War in the early 90's, Graham was called to active duty and served state-side at McEntire Air National Guard Base as Staff Judge Advocate where he prepared members for deployment to the Gulf region. Even today while serving as a United States Senator, Graham continues to serve his country in the United States Air Force Reserves. He is one of only three senators currently serving in the Guard or Reserves. Graham has earned the rank of Colonel and is assigned as a Senior Individual Mobilization Augmentee to The Judge Advocate General. A native South Carolinian, Graham grew up in a blue collar family in the small town of Central where his parents ran a restaurant and pool hall. The first member of his family to go to college, Graham earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina. He lives in Seneca and is a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

Trump Chooses Army Gen. H.R. McMaster as National Security Adviser

General McMaster is an outstanding choice to serve as President Trump's National Security Adviser.

For years he's been on the front lines fighting the War on Terror. He understands the threats and challenges we face. He's also one of the most talented military officers I know.

General McMaster is a great choice and will serve President Trump and our nation well.

In a brief address from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, President Trump announced the appointment of General Herbert "H.R." McMaster as his national security adviser.

Justice Antonin Scalia dead at 79

I was very sad to hear of the sudden and unexpected passing of Justice Scalia. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.

I am very grateful for Justice Scalia’s nearly three decades of service on the Court. He is one of the most consequential Justices in the history of the Court and our Nation has benefitted from his service.

Justice Scalia was one of the great legal minds of his generation and his work has impacted the lives of all Americans. He will be missed.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Antonin Scalia, the influential conservative and most provocative member of the Supreme Court, has died. He was 79. The U.S. Marshal's Service in Washington confirmed Scalia's death at a private residence…

Obama Sends Congress Record $4.1 Trillion Budget

I strongly oppose the Obama budget. I’m glad to see that is has no support, no backing, and it’s not going anywhere.

President Barack Obama is unveiling his eighth and final budget, a $4 trillion-plus proposal that's freighted with liberal policy initiatives and new and familiar tax hikes — all sent to a dismissive Republican-controlled Congress that simply wants to move on from his presidency. The budget...

What to Know About Martin Luther King Day

Dr. King’s legacy is secure in American history and he will be viewed by generations to come as transforming our nation for the better.

At great personal risk, both to his family and himself, he challenged the status quo of segregation. Through his words and actions Dr. King proved to be a true American hero.

Obama hails Iran nuclear agreement progress, prisoner release - CNNPolitics.com

I'm very happy the prisoners held by Iran are on their way home. However let's be clear -- they never should have been taken as prisoners in the first place and should have long ago been unconditionally released by Iran.

As for the beginning of the implementation of the nuclear deal with Iran, I hate that we have empowered the Iranian ayatollahs with the pathway to a nuclear bomb, missiles to deliver it, and money to pay for it all.

The Iranians are the largest state sponsor of terrorism and over time, and contrary to President Obama's beliefs, the nuclear deal will prove to be a nightmare for the Middle East and world large.

Our next President must do better to once and for all contain the nuclear ambitions of the Iranian regime.

President Barack Obama on Sunday hailed the powers of diplomacy in dealing with Iran as the nuclear deal struck with the government in Tehran takes effect and "unjustly detained" Americans return home after a prisoner swap made public a day earlier.

A majority of Americans believe that our country is headed in the wrong direction. Unfortunately, I believe they’re right. And I heard nothing tonight to suggest that we’re going to change course.

At home, our economy is stagnant and abroad, our nation is very much at risk.

I heard nothing from the President tonight to suggest that we’re actually going to destroy ISIL.

I fear 2016 will be a very dangerous year abroad and a challenging year here at home.

I hope and pray I'm wrong.

President Obama is intentionally misleading the nation about the threat we face from ISIL.

President Obama is also overselling the successes we are having on the battlefield. His strategy will not destroy ISIL and he knows it.

BACKGROUND: Graham to Introduce Authorization to Use Military Force Against ISIL

I’m going to introduce an authorization to use Military Force against ISIL that is not limited by time, geography or means.

We only have two choices regarding ISIL – fight them in their backyard or fight them in ours.

I choose to fight them in their backyard.

On Wednesday, November 18 U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said he will soon introduce an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) Against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and its associated forces.

Graham calls for 'timeout' on accepting Syrian refugees

Sen. Lindsey Graham is calling for a "timeout" on accepting new Syrian refugees into the United States in the wake of terrorist attacks in Paris late last week.

"The one thing I’ve learned from Paris is that we need to have a timeout on bringing refugees into this country until we have a system that we think will work. So I’m calling for a timeout on Syrian refugees," he said Monday during an interview with Fox News Radio.

Remarks are a shift from two months ago, when he called for admitting a "fair share."

U.S. to send Special Operations forces to Syria - CNNPolitics.com

President Obama is putting fifty brave Americans at risk without a clear strategy of how to degrade and destroy ISIL.

ISIL is not going to be intimidated by this move. In fact, ISIL will see this as yet another sign of President Obama’s weakness.

ISIL is all-in for their horrific agenda and demented view of the world. Unfortunately, President Obama is not all-in when it comes to degrading and destroying ISIL. Today’s announcement again reinforces that view.

The United States is set to deploy troops on the ground in Syria for the first time to advise and assist rebel forces combating ISIS, multiple officials said Friday.

Every American who believes we deserve the truth about what happened in Benghazi should be proud of the work by Trey Gowdy. His committee has uncovered facts that no one else has found. In fact, his work is making other investigations look incomplete and incompetent.

For the sake of the families of Americans who lost their lives in the Benghazi attacks, I deeply regret that he was not put in charge of this investigation even sooner.

I have complete confidence Trey Gowdy will not stop investigating until all the facts about what happened in Benghazi – before, during, and after the attacks – are known.

The attacks on Trey’s work are growing stronger and more intense. You know this means he is getting closer to the truth. For those who want to avoid responsibility for their actions regarding Benghazi, Trey Gowdy has become their worst nightmare.

I visited the Crosshill community in Columbia near Lake Katherine and spoke with residents who had been impacted by these terrible floods. One resident, Steve Marshall, shared his amazing story of how he survived the flood in his neighborhood.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to our First Responders across South Carolina. They are truly heroes and Steve’s story is just one of many out there. I thought you’d be interested in hearing what he had to say.

STEVE MARSHALL:

"I woke up at 5:30 on Sunday morning and when my feet hit the floor, I was ankle deep in water. I have two elderly neighbors on both sides and when I looked outside the water was completely over my Honda Civic. I went immediately and called 911.

"When I got out of the house, I went over to my neighbors and checked on them. I was trying to make it across the street to higher ground to see if my neighbor had a John Boat. We were going to try and come back and rescue my neighbor, Miss Dot.

"When I got out in the road, unfortunately, I got swept away and was washed about eight houses down. By the Grace of God I was able to grab a tree. The Columbia Fire Department, was already on the scene. I yelled twice and the second time I heard, “where are you?”

"One of the fireman swam in about 25 yards and pulled me off the tree and was able to get me to safety. I can’t give enough credit to Columbia Fire Department.

"Amazingly, Miss Dot was rescued a little bit later and my dog also survived.

"The material aspects of things -- they will be replaced. It’s called 'stuff' for a reason. But at the end of the day I have my life, my sons, and my dog. I’m very fortunate to be alive."

It’s been an incredible experience touring South Carolina to see the devastation wrought by these floods.

While the storm did tremendous damage, it was heartwarming to see the people of our state picking one another up and lending a helping hand to a friend in need.

I stopped by a Red Cross shelter, South Carolina Emergency Management control center, took an aerial tour of areas devastated by the floods, and visited a neighborhood in Columbia which faced some of the worst flooding. In their community a dam broke and waters 8-12 feet high came rushing in. Their homes were flooded with water but they are now picking up the pieces and moving forward. The neighborhood was full of friends and volunteers lending a helping hand.

While this storm has done great physical damage, it has certainly not broken our spirit.

Today it was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to see the worst of Mother Nature's wrath meeting the best of humanity in South Carolina.

I stopped by Charleston’s Emergency Response headquarters this morning to thank them for the hard work they are doing in keeping our citizens safe. They truly are some of the heroes in our midst and we are fortunate to have them working to protect us.

We also continue to keep those who have been impacted by this terrible storm in our thoughts and prayers.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see the damage this storm has caused.

This is bad news and I fear even worse news is still to come. The sooner Congress reauthorizes the Export-Import Bank and puts us back on a level playing field, the better it will be for workers in Greenville and across our state.

The United States should not unilaterally disarm, yet that is exactly what we are doing. This is a recipe for losing jobs.

I strongly support the enforcement actions announced by DHEC and appreciate the leadership shown by Governor Haley in pushing this issue forward.

America must never forget September 11.

Fourteen years ago we were attacked by radical Islamic terrorists with the intention of destroying our way of life. We must continue to confront the radical ideology behind these evil attacks and remain diligent in our efforts to prevent them from ever happening again.

Watching our nation come together after the attack was truly moving and displayed our values to the world.

On this special day, let's be mindful of the threats we face, appreciate our freedoms, and be thankful for the first responders and brave men and women in uniform who protect us.

Graham Speaks About the Obama Administration's Disastrous Iranian Nuclear Deal

When they write the history of these times, they're going to look back and say that President Obama was a weak opponent of evil and a poor champion of freedom. They're going to look and say that the United States Senate refused to debate the most consequential foreign policy agreement in modern times. Obama Secures 34 Senate Democrats’ Support for Iran Nuclear Deal

The Iranians have now secured enough votes in the Senate to ensure they have a pathway to a bomb, the missile to deliver it, and the money to pay for it.

The only reason the Ayatollah and his henchmen aren’t dancing in the streets of Tehran is they don’t believe in dancing.

President Barack Obama locked in enough support in Congress to ensure he can overcome bipartisan opposition and implement a landmark nuclear accord with Iran.
