The Social Justice Academy motivated me to pursue a career which gives back to my community and work hard to be successful because of my exposure to a very diverse, informed group of peers at UPenn."

Our Story

OSSE Scholars is a program of the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education. Scholars are high-achieving students selected to participate in prestigious summer college programs. The program is needs-based and provides full funding for summer study at partner universities, including tuition, travel, room & board and books. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities and leadership skills. Interested students submit an online application and complete a one-on-one interview. Once students are selected as OSSE Scholars, they must apply and be accepted to a partner university summer program. In 2018-19, the program received 126 applications and selected 44 Scholars. The OSSE Scholars application is available in the fall of each school year. Please visit the OSSE Scholars website for more information.
