The Korean War started on 25 June 1950, and fighting raged until an armistice was signed on 27 July 1953. More than 26,000 Canadians served on land, at sea and in the air during this bitter conflict. Sadly, 516 Canadians died, approximately 1,200 wounded, 32 Prisoners of War (all of whom returned home), and 16 missing in action.
Long seen as a forgotten war, the Korean War is now recognized as an important chapter in Canada's military history.
Visit the “Canada and the Korean War” exhibit at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. for reflections of Canada’s role in this conflict. Open Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm, free of charge.

Happy #NationalHotDogDay! Chicago, we take your word for it: it wouldn’t be Chicago-Style without pickled sport peppers! Peppers or not, let’s relish the 🇨🇦🇺🇸 partnership and our love for great food!
It’s been a busy week for 🇨🇦🇺🇸! Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, was in Washington, DC this week for the #NATOSummit and we had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her visit. Listen to find out more!
What a beautiful sight at the 🇨🇦🇺🇸 border last Tuesday night! In honour of #NATO75 and the #NATOSummit, we have illuminated Niagara Falls in the NATO flag’s iconic 🔵 blue and ⚪️ white. We are committed to our collective security and know we are #StrongerTogether. #niagarafalls #lights
We are still enjoying the Canada Day celebrations! Sharing some memorable moments from earlier this week. ❤️🇨🇦❤️ #CanadaDayUSA
Only 3 days until #CanadaDayUSA, and we’re gearing up for an amazing celebration! 🇨🇦 It takes a village, or as the Iroquoians would say, a Kanata, to make this day special. #DYK that the name Canada comes from the Iroquoian word “kanata”, meaning “village”? By the 1550s, the name Canada began appearing on maps, and the Dominion of Canada was officially born on July 1, 1867. Join us in counting down to Canada Day! Get ready to share your festive moments with #CanadaDayUSA and let’s make this celebration one for the books! 🍁🥳📸 #CanadaDay #History #CelebrateCanada
Wrapping up another fantastic week for #TeamCanadaUSA! We’re thrilled to share the highlights of Ambassador Kirsten Hillman’s visits to South Carolina and Georgia. Happy #Pride2024! 🇨🇦🩷🏳️🌈 We had the best time walking in the @capitalpridedc Parade! Always proud to stand with #2SLGBTQ+ communities and allies to celebrate love, diversity, and equality. Everyone should be free to be who they are and love who they love – openly and proudly.
Happy Pride Season! 🌈 We are gearing up for @capitalpridedc tomorrow! The embassy is excited to participate in #pride and celebrate diversity and inclusion with the DC community! See you all tomorrow! 🇨🇦🌈
It’s officially #PrideMonth – a celebration of identity and inclusion! Diversity is our strength, and we are proud to stand with the #2SLGBTQI+ community at home and around the world. Happy #PrideSeason 🇨🇦🌈
From Philadelphia with Prime Minister Trudeau – meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Shapiro, and #SEIU workers, and key business leaders – to Austin, Texas with Minister Ng, it was another positive week for #TeamCanadaUSA. Next week: Montreal. 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸
Three Ministers and dozens of meetings, capping off another great week for #TeamCanadaUSA. Off to Philadelphia next week to welcome Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and then on to Austin, Texas. 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸
Today we welcomed President of the Treasury Board, Anita Anand, to Washington, DC. Canada and the U.S. are working together to enhance regulatory cooperation and ensure that our businesses are productive & competitive, while strengthening supply chain resiliency. #TeamCanadaUSA 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸
Great to welcome Canada’s Minister of National Defence, Bill Blair, to Washington, DC. For Canada, national security is also North American security, and we are fortunate to have the built-in trust & interoperability with the U.S. — our closest friend, partner & ally. #TeamCanadaUSA 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸
#HomeSweetHome! These wood bison have completed their journey from @ElkIslandNP 🇨🇦 to their new home in #alaska as part of a joint conservation effort between Canada and the US contributing to the global survival and restoration of an iconic and majestic animal.🦬
Let’s play ball! To mark opening day, we asked our staff which baseball team they are cheering for this season. #BlueJaysOrNationals #ViewFrom501 🇨🇦⚾️🇺🇸
What a day! Canada Day on the Hill reinforced the enduring partnership and strategic relationship between Canada and the U.S. Together with all 12 of our Consuls General from across the U.S., and provincial partners, we met with over 50 members of Congress from the Senate & House, representing 28 states. 🇨🇦🤝🇺🇸
What better way to end a fantastic day than with a little cross-border sports rivalry and hockey diplomacy? Last night we were proud to celebrate the inaugural season of the @thepwhlofficial. We watched two games: Boston at Toronto, and Ottawa at New York. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Congressman Nick LaLota (NY-01) served as honorary team captains for Boston and New York! We’re proud to celebrate a sport that has the ability to unite communities, break down barriers, and foster diversity and inclusion. 🇨🇦🏒🇺🇸 #DYK that @thepwhlofficial set a world attendance record for a women’s hockey game in Ottawa last month attracting a crowd of 19,285? Congratulations! 🌟
