Davis Votes in Support of Emergency National Guard, Capitol Police Funding

This funding bill is a great example of what can happen when Republicans and Democrats come together to support our National Guard members and Capitol Police officers. This long overdue funding will prevent layoffs and furloughs in National Guard units across the country and ensure rank-and-file USCP officers continue to get paid.

Because Congress acted, the Illinois National Guard will avoid a $31 million shortfall in funding, ensuring operational readiness. I hope Speaker Pelosi will learn from the Senate’s bipartisan success and follow suit when it comes to reforming our security posture on Capitol Hill.

Davis’ Bipartisan, Labor-Backed Fair and Open Skies Act Passes Committee Vote

Our country operates one of the safest aviation systems in the world, yet foreign airlines who operate here are currently not required to follow our country’s safety and industry regulations. Letting foreign airlines skirt regulations or labor standards in their home country only puts American workers and companies at a disadvantage.

If a foreign air carrier wants to operate within the United States, then they need to play by the same rules we require of our airlines or they shouldn’t be permitted to operate within our borders.

You can read more about our bipartisan Fair and Open Skies Act, which passed a committee vote yesterday, below:

Democrats Falsely Claiming State Election Integrity Laws as 'Jim Crow 2.0' is Dangerous Election Subversion

The Democrats' hearing on "Election Subversion" couldn’t be more timely because there is a lot of election misinformation happening right now…

And it’s coming from the other side of the aisle.

Falsely referring to states' election integrity laws as "Jim Crow 2.0" "sick" "un-American" & "a voter suppression epidemic" as Democrats have done is dangerous election subversion.

You can read my full opening statement from the Committee on House Administration's hearing on "Election Subversion" below:

Rep. Rodney Davis Discusses Questions Concerning Speaker Pelosi’s Role in Capitol Security Posture

Earlier this morning, I joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, Congressman Steve Scalise, Rep. Elise Stefanik, and other House Republicans to talk about the security posture of the Capitol Complex on January 6 and how the security structure of the U.S. Capitol is set up to fail.

There are major institutional problems regarding the security of the Capitol and major questions that need to be answered, but unfortunately, those questions won’t be asked or answered by the Committee because the Speaker is tightly controlling this process.

Davis, LaHood, Brady, Sandage Announce SBA Disaster Declaration Approved for McLean County

The U.S. Small Business Administration has approved a disaster declaration for McLean County and contiguous counties (Champaign, DeWitt, Ford, Livingston, Logan, Piatt, Tazewell, and Woodford) following historic flooding in June. A declaration opens up loans and financial assistance for those affected, including Business Physical Disaster Loans, Economic Injury Disaster Loans, and Home Disaster Loans.

Rep. Darin LaHood and I co-led a letter from the Illinois Congressional delegation to the SBA in support of the disaster request. I applaud the SBA on their quick turnaround of this request so area residents affected by the flooding can get access to assistance.

Davis, House GOP Urge Biden-Harris Administration to Stop Secretly Censoring Speech in Coordination with Social Media Companies on Their Platforms

The Biden-Harris Administration is secretly censoring speech they deem as "misinformation" in coordination with social media companies on their platforms.

The answer to speech you disagree with should be more speech, not less. As a staunch defender of the First Amendment and free speech, I believe the Administration is attacking every Americans' fundamental and Constitutional right to free speech with their actions.

That's why I, along with 188 other House Republicans, are urging President Biden to stop censoring speech and give answers to the public regarding the White House's secret censorship program. You can read our letter to the President below:

Reps. Davis and Levin Announce Formation of Bipartisan Spent Nuclear Fuel Solutions Caucus

I support an all-of-the-above approach to energy. A critical part of that is nuclear power and addressing the full lifecycle of nuclear, which includes finding a long-term storage solution for spent nuclear fuel. That's why my colleague Congressman Mike Levin and I are forming the Spent Nuclear Fuels Solutions Caucus.

There are dozens of locations across the country, including the Clinton Power Station in DeWitt County, that store spent nuclear fuel. In many of those locations, long-term storage is not feasible, which adds to the urgency of finding a long-term storage solution.

This is about protecting public safety and ensuring the viability of nuclear power stations in the communities they serve, including Clinton. It’s our hope that this bipartisan caucus serves as a starting point to finding a solution to this very important issue.

Rep. Rodney Davis Speaks On Speaker Pelosi Playing Politics with the Select Committee on January 6

It's disappointing that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is yet again playing politics with an important issue like investigating the events surrounding January 6 by blocking Republican appointments to the select committee. There were security failures that happened under her leadership, and it's vitally important we find answers so we can make sure it won't happen again.

Illinois National Guard facing $31M shortfall as Congress delays payment

Congress absolutely has a duty to prevent furloughs in the U.S. Capitol Police and National Guard, but Democrats in the House abandoned bipartisan negotiations to push a spending bill that costs nearly three times as much as what’s needed to make the USCP and National Guard budgets whole.

That’s being irresponsible with our tax dollars and threatens the readiness of the National Guard to respond to natural disasters and emergencies. Congress must pass a clean funding bill specific to USCP and National Guard needs to ensure we will avoid these dangerous furloughs, which are just days away.

13,000 Illinois National Guard soldiers and airmen to lose pay if training in August and September is canceled. Employees could be furloughed.

Decatur keeps federal 'metro' status, can still qualify for some federal dollars

Glad to see OMB reverse course and allow Decatur and other regions of similar size to keep their metro status. Metro status is an important tool for smaller towns across the country to attract new jobs and qualify for federal funding.

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur will remain eligible for some federal funding after the White House decided to keep Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population thresholds in place.

Davis Co-Sponsors Bipartisan Bill to Support the U.S. Postal Service

I have been a strong supporter of the Postal Service throughout my time in Congress. The USPS is a lifeline to communities I represent, particularly those in rural areas. For many families, the USPS delivers live-saving medication, benefits, or messages from loved ones. Their services are critical. That’s why I’m co-sponsoring the Postal Service Reform Act, so we can make the USPS financially viable for generations to come and implement efficiencies that will protect taxpayers and consumers alike.

Last week, I visited Sun Buckets in Urbana where they are working to further develop their namesake product. The Sun Bucket uses the suns heat to “charge” the bucket which can cook for up to 6 hours.

The product is already deployed in areas of poverty in Kenya, India, and Haiti. Areas with no or intermittent access to electricity are their intended target. They have some ideas to partner with the federal government which includes providing humanitarian relief to areas struck by disaster and I look forward to working with them.

Davis Announces Efforts to Preserve Decatur’s “Metro” Status Successful

Decatur’s metro status is a critically important tool for city officials to attract new jobs and qualify for federal funding. The proposed regulatory change from OMB had the potential to negatively impact Decatur’s economy, which is why I opposed it.

I’d like to thank Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and her staff for leading the opposition to this damaging regulatory change. Because they and other municipal officials across the country spoke out and made their voices heard, OMB made the right decision and backed down.

I recently sat down with University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Jones to catch up. We had a good discussion on the importance of getting students back on campus in-person for the fall semester. We also talked about the importance of working together to support the U of I’s Willard Airport. As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’ve consistently advocated for Willard and the other small, regional airports across our district.
