Column: Democrat leaders aren't living up to their promises and spending wildly

2021 was the year of spending in Congress, as the Democrat-controlled House, Senate, and White House passed trillions of dollars of reckless spending, and what do we have to show for it? Record high inflation, strained supply chains, exorbitant gas prices, and businesses everywhere struggling to find employees. The American people are fed up with Washington’s lack of financial responsibility.

In my op-ed for the Tulsa World yesterday, I outlined these failures, as well as presented my solution to return Congress to a fiscally responsible body. You can read that here 👇

"The story of 2021 is spending — unchecked, off-the-rails, reckless spending," says 1st District Congressman Kevin Hern.

Sen. Joe Manchin says he won't support Biden's Build Back Better social spending bill

I applaud Senator Manchin for sticking to his conscience and his values, putting the future of our nation above partisan games. He’s absolutely correct that the Build Back Broke bill would make America less competitive and more vulnerable to threats of all kinds. If we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that MORE spending isn’t the answer. It doesn’t work; in fact, the spending from this year has left us worse off than we were at the start.

Only one House Democrat was willing to do what Senator Manchin did and vote against their party’s bad bill. BBB is officially dead - hopefully, the end of this bill marks a return to fiscally responsible leadership in our nation’s Capitol.

The West Virginia Democrat said Sunday he has 'tried everything humanly possible' but cannot get to the point of supporting the bill.

Impact of Inflation by Household Income — Penn Wharton Budget Model

Despite the Biden Administration calling inflation a “high-class problem” and blaming the rise in prices on businesses rather than acknowledging their own failures, middle- and working-class American families continue to be the hardest hit by the record inflation our country is experiencing. Especially during the holiday season, families are seeing the value of their dollar shrinking more than it has in nearly 40 years.

According to a new nonpartisan Penn-Wharton Budget Model analysis, American families are spending an average of $3,500 more on the same products than they have in the previous few years. What’s worse, lower-income families are spending more than their more well-off counterparts. Despite recent confirmation from Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve Chair, that inflation is not transitory like the White House has been claiming it to be for months, they still refuse to take any actions to address it or even acknowledge that it’s a serious problem. All the while the American taxpayers being crushed under the weight of Bidenflation.

We estimate that inflation in 2021 will require the average U.S. household to spend around $3,500 more in 2021 to achieve the same level of consumption of goods and services as in recent previous years (2019 or 2020). Moreover, we estimate that lower-income households spend more of their budget on g

Democrats Voicing Their True Desires for Build Back Better

I’ve spoken at length about how the disaster that Biden’s Build Back Broke plan is. Adding trillions of dollars to our massive national debt in the form of socialist wish-list spending – at a time when inflations is already suffocating many middle- and working-class families around the country – is insanity.

In the current version of the bill, many of the programs will only be funded for a few years, a maneuver Democrats used to make the cost appear lower. But, they’ve been very vocal about the fact that they want these programs made permanent – a much more expensive policy. If this bill passes the Senate and the funding remains truly temporary, it will add $367B to our national deficit over the next ten years. If, however, the programs in the bill are made permanent, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that they will add a total of $3 TRILLION to our debt.

Democrats, including White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, are undermining the nonpartisan CBO by calling this score fake. They claim that BBB will keep the programs temporary. To quote the great economist Milton Friedman “nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program”.

Don’t just take it from me; here’s a highlight reel of Democratic legislators expressing their true intent for BBB:

Congratulations to Lt. Col. Michael Coloney with our Oklahoma National Guard on receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, one of the nation’s highest military honors for combat valor.

Because of his masterful aerial skill in an F-16 and his decisive actions, Lt. Col. Coloney saved several U.S. Army Special Forces and Afghan soldiers from a Taliban attack that had them surrounded and pinned down in April of 2018.

Air Force Lt. Col. Michael Coloney received one of the military’s most prestigious awards for helping save U.S. and Afghan troops in 2018.

Tulsa Deputies Go Christmas Shopping With Local Kids In Need

Thank you so much to the Tulsa County Deputies who took time out of their busy schedules to go shopping with local children and their families last Sunday! Local law enforcement is one of the most important pillars of our community, and I’m proud that they’re doing so much to give back.

Tulsa County Deputies went Christmas shopping with local kids in need and their families. 12 Tulsa County deputies went from patrolling the streets to shopping the isles at the Bixby Walmart on Sunday, helping kids find the right Christmas gift for their loved ones.

Recent Data Show Dominant Meat Processing Companies Are Taking Advantage of Market Power to Raise Prices and Grow Profit Margins | The White House

Today’s inflation report – showing that prices are up 6.8%, the highest level in 39 YEARS – is further evidence of just how poorly Biden and his Administration are handling our economic recovery. Despite what they may think, increasing taxes and spending trillions of dollars of taxpayer money on wasteful socialist wish-list items will NOT fix these prices hikes.

Instead of taking ownership of our current economic burdens, the Biden Administration is looking to place the blame anywhere else but on themselves. In October, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that assuming companies would increase prices due to tax hikes would be “unfair and absurd”. Just this morning, the White House again placed the inflation blame at the feet of industry producers – specifically meat processing companies.

The truth is that this Administration has no idea how business actually works. The math is simple: if something costs more money to produce, you’re going to sell it at a higher price than you normally would. Pinning culpability for their own failures on American businesses is wrong – and it further demonstrates just how out of touch they are with the American people.

I’ve been a small business owner; I’ve had to deal with these issues up close. I know what it takes to succeed in this country. Most small business owners don’t care about politics - the only thing they want their government to do is get out of the way. I will continue to be a voice for small business in this Congress. It’s time for the Biden Administration to take ownership of the mess they’ve made.

On Wednesday night I voted YES on the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. This measure, is designed to implement further sanctions on China and other countries that use forced labor. This bill should have been brought to the floor for a vote months ago, but has been held up by Speaker Pelosi and her colleagues.

China’s continuous and egregious human rights abuses against the Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang region cannot and will not continue to go unpunished. The Chinese Communist Party’s suppression of freedom and basic human rights in their own country, as well as their infringements into the freedoms and basic human rights of the people in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong, will not be tolerated.

This bipartisan measure further strengthens the ban on purchasing and importing goods produced with forced labor. We remain committed to eliminating this practice worldwide, and strongly urge both our trading partners and independent businesses to join the United States in standing up against oppression.

I was honored to speak at the Christmas Gala for the Pipe Liners Club of Tulsa.

To say it has been a difficult year for pipe liners would be a gross understatement. The canceling of the Keystone XL pipeline and the overall assault on domestic energy production has strained the industry and harmed Oklahomans.

I’ll continue to fight for Oklahoma jobs into the new year and beyond.

Progressive policies that permit rising crime must be stopped – voters in these cities say, 'Enough!'

No good news is coming out of the Biden administration, but few issues are more troubling than the rise in violent crime. As an example, homicides are up 59% over 2019 in Atlanta.

Many large cities that foolishly defunded their police are feeling the dystopia that a lawless society induces. This issue combined with a poor jobs report, vaccine mandates that hurt small businesses, and an overall struggling economy, creates a petri dish for violent crime to fester in.

The crime wave sweeping our country has nothing to do with COVID-19, as White House spokesperson Jen Psaki suggested, but everything to do with progressive Democrats throttling law enforcement.

Today we remember more than 2000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice 80 years ago at Pearl Harbor. When our nation was attacked these men and women rose to its defense without hesitation. We owe them so much.

Many Tulsans are familiar with our own Pearl Harbor hero, Arles Cole, who survived the attack and went on to fight for years in the Pacific Theater. After the war, Mr. Cole went on to live a long and fulfilling life here in the Tulsa area before he passed away last December at the age of 96.

Before his death, Mr. Cole gave a nearly 3-hour interview to the National Museum of the Pacific War, where he detailed his experiences from boot camp through the end of the war in Japan. You can find that interview here: https://digitalarchive.pacificwarmuseum.org/digital/collection/p16769coll1/id/7603/

Today and every day we are eternally grateful for all those who answered the call to protect our country and its people. We will never forget all that they gave up to ensure the preservation of our freedoms.

Yesterday I joined a letter with over 100 of my House colleagues to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure encouraging her to abandon their vaccine mandate. The mandate, which takes effect on January 4th, 2022, states that all healthcare workers treating Medicare & Medicaid patients MUST be vaccinated OR be required to continue to wear a mask and participate in weekly testing. Employees who do not comply will lose their status as a Medicare/Medicaid provider.

I am firmly against vaccine mandates in any form. Subjecting healthcare workers to extreme government overreach is a dangerous idea which will only serve to further damage our system. This mandate, if implemented, will be forced on over 17 million healthcare workers across ~76,000 providers across the country.

This decision will likely leave over 54 million Medicare-aged Americans with less access to proper medical care. I strongly encourage Administrator Brooks-LaSure to abandon this overstep and ensure that all Americans who rely on Medicare/Medicaid have access to their preferred healthcare providers.

U.S. announces diplomatic boycott of Beijing Winter Olympics

Today, the Biden Administration announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in response to China’s egregious and repeated human rights violations. While our athletes will still participate, no U.S. officials will be attending the games.

This diplomatic boycott is the bare minimum of what we should be doing. China’s persecution of the Uyghur Muslims, predatory economic tactics, and violations of other countries sovereignty cannot continue be ignored or go unpunished. While no diplomat should attend, this decision needed to be made months ago and extend past just a diplomatic boycott. I strongly encourage other countries and international organizations to stand up to the CCP.

The diplomatic boycott marks a major escalation in tensions between the U.S. and China.

November’s jobs report – which showed that job growth was less than half of the projection – is further evidence that Democrats are suffocating our economy. It’s simple: this Administration has no idea how businesses actually work. Wasteful government spending, overreaching mandates, and expansion of the cradle-to-grave welfare state is NOT how you get our economy back on its feet.

Today, I joined NEWSMAX to discuss the dismal jobs report, fighting back against vaccine mandates, and more. You can watch the full interview here 👇

U.S. Reaches Deal to Restart ‘Remain in Mexico’ Program for Asylum Seekers

After record-high border crossings this year, Biden is finally reinstating President Trump’s highly successful Remain in Mexico policy – something he refused to do even after the courts ruled against him. We should have never been in this situation, but because of Biden’s arrogant incompetency, large amounts of fentanyl are flooding into the country and the cartels have near-total control of the border.

The President’s return to the Remain in Mexico Policy confirms what we’ve known for the start: Trump’s policy works, and repealing it was nothing more than a political stunt. The current Administration’s willingness to put the American people at risk in favor of partisan games continues to weaken our national security and put our communities at risk.

I’m glad to see the President re-adopt this measure. Now, it’s time to finish construction on the border wall, strengthen Customs and Border Patrol, and get back to putting America first.

The Biden administration’s agreement with Mexico allows the U.S. to resume a controversial Trump-era policy, but with some changes.

Joe Biden borrowing a page straight out of the Minister of N**i Propaganda Joseph Goebbels book: "If you make a lie big enough and you tell it often enough, the people will come to believe it"! The opening remarks to Biden's speech before Congress was pure demagoguery and garbage. Because of his well known "Pro Choice" position on abortion and the Catholic Church now suggesting that they will deny him communion, his act of placing his hand on the Bible and announcing it as some gesture of solemn truth and purity was pure blasphemy! I thought I had heard the worst examples of hubris by politicians before, but this usurper forges new ground.

Main St, Broken Arrow, OK April 13 at 6:00 American Legion Department of Oklahoma “Employer of Veterans Award” 2021 Medium Size Business Cameron Glass is a Patriotic, Veteran Owned, Small Business, incorporated in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The company has been in business since 1978 manufacturing, fabricating, and engineering specialty glass, for a diverse variety of industrial and commercial applications. Although a small business with less than 100, fulltime employees, 14.6 percent of that workforce are Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. That includes the Owner and Company President, Mr. Jim Cameron. Mr. Cameron is a wartime Veteran with service in Vietnam. Cameron Glass has a history of hiring job applicants who are Military Veterans, into overage positions. If a Veteran is really in need of a job, even if the company is fully staffed, and does not have any open position, if at all possible, they will still hire the Veteran. Also, on the other end of that, in many cases Cameron Glass has held a position open and unfilled until a Veteran could become qualified for the position. When Cameron Glass advertises a vacancy, it ensures that employment agencies know of Cameron Glass’s Corporate Policy of, “Veteran” Preference in both interview and in placement. However, because of the Veteran friendly corporate culture, and the fact that the company is honestly a really good place to work, many of the Veterans employed at Cameron Glass were referred for employment by other employees of the company. The company has policy of providing an employment in-processing fast track, for qualified Veterans, with the goal of putting the Veteran in the shop and on the payroll, the same week they apply. Once a Veteran is employed at Cameron Glass the company has a “no hassle,” “no issues”, policy of allowing Veterans off work to attend appointments at the with the VA. Cameron Glass has been recognized as a Patriotic Employer, by the Department of Defense, Employers Support of the Guard and Reserves. Additionally, the company has been recommended for and is currently in competition to receive the prestigious “Secretary of Defense, Freedom Award.” Of Cameron Glass’s Veterans, three are currently serving Reserve Component Service Members. When the Service Members are on Active-Duty orders, including long tour deployments, the company pays them differential pay so they don’t lose money while serving their country in the military. The Company also maintains all benefits for the Military Service Members. Cameron Glass has a, Blue Star Family’s approach to its Veterans. And in reality, the company culture is such that the company realizes what Veterans bring to the workforce and that employing Veterans is just good business. All things considered, Cameron Glass is truly is a “Patriotic” and Veteran friendly “Employer of Veterans.”
I would like to voice my concern regarding the CDC's lack of attention to the Cruise Industry. Our US cruise ports and many ancillary businesses have lost billions of dollars in revenue and the industry is now finding home ports in countries other than the US. This is a travesty to many of our cities, supporting businesses and to the many thousands of US cruisers.

It has come to my attention that my House representative, Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK), along with 163 other members of Congress, ALL Republican, voted AGAINST HR 908 in September 2020. HR908 is a 1-page bill that simply condemns hateful acts and rhetoric against Asian-Americans. I've read it in its entirety and cannot understand why anyone would vote against it - unless it is a cowardice to call out racist and harmful rhetoric for what it is, especially when it comes out of the mouth of the party head, Trump. Representative Kevin Hern - why did you refuse to stand up for your Asian constituents last September, despite the evidence that this hateful rhetoric during the pandemic has endangered our lives? Why is it that I do not see one public statement of concern around the horrific tragedy in Atlanta that has shaken the AAPI community to its core, and instead social media posts about immigration? Do we not count as your constituents? Do we not matter? Here is a link to the language in the bill, as well as a role-call of all 164 Republican House members who failed to stand up for us in the AAPI community.
