Join the filmmakers and two former athletes turned coaches as we talk about how this culture was able to exist for so long, the challenges and complexity of what it takes to make change, and exactly what you - and athletes, parents and coaches everywhere - can do to end abusive coaching culture. For Washingtonians, the legacy of Coach John Thompson is unmatched. At MCSR, John Thompson is an example of what we call the counter story. Throughout his tenure as head coach at Georgetown University, he exuded qualities such as tenderness, empathy, and stood up against injustice while demonstrating what healthy masculinity looks like.

His impact was captured perfectly by Allen Iverson during his Hall of Fame speech where Iverson says while holding back tears, "I want to thank Coach Thompson, for saving my life."

As our young people head back to school virtually today, our work with MOST Club members stretches well beyond our weekly curriculum-based sessions. The Men of Strength Club was honored to be able to support Kemarte in newest venture, as he and other local brands came together in order to host the “From DC with Love” pop up shop. Kemarte recently launched his first business called Emotions Brand to counter dominant narratives about men not being able to show emotions. The brand was inspired by his participation in MOST Club where he learned a lot about those dominant and counter stories associated with young men expressing emotions and wanted to share his knowledge with his peers. Please feel free to support this all-star and his new business by visiting https://www.emotionsbrand.com/. It has been a pleasure having Kemarte’ be a part of the MOST Club and we are extremely proud of him as he pursues his goals as a student-athlete at Wesley College. We have no doubt that he will continue to flourish and excel in life.

Healthy Masculinity Training Institute — Men Can Stop Rape

At the Healthy Masculinity Training Institute (HMTI), Men Can Stop Rape (MCSR) prepares communities to positively engage boys and men in primary prevention of violence against women and other forms of violence. Through the training series, participants will learn the scientific theories, strength-based approach and dynamic exercises that are part of MCSR’s 23-year history of mobilizing boys and men to promote healthy masculinity.

Join us this September for a chance connect and heal in the relationship- and community-building of the HMTI. Sectioned into three-hour parts, the HMTI’s interactive group exercises and multi-media presentations demonstrate a pro-social, public health approach to creating cultures free from violence. Furthermore, the training institute equips participants with the lens and skills to positively construct masculinity and social norms that foster safer communities.
