Attention First Years and New Members to the IAS!!! Thursday, October, 10th is your last chance to sign up to be this year's First-Year Rep!! Please fill out an interview slot asap but you can complete the application any time before your interview.
(More info in forms below)

Application:

Interview Sign-Up:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VtTxEyVd4FAoxdD66gIimKg5wLvrug1wr3ZNs5s5lZw/edit?usp=sharing&fbclid=IwAR3sq-kJm8RJ-LYKeG6QT7VxpwjjQRuTXLbDvJc_v2dNySDgOIGd08ZXNbY

Lots of you are asking about First-Year COMMITTEE (FYC) as well.

To clarify, Reps will communicate between the FYC and E-board. The position of Rep requires an application and an interview. Ultimately, two reps will be decided upon, emailed, and will attend E-Board meetings and lead First-Year Committee meetings/events thereafter.

As for members of the First-Year Committee (FYC), you are not a Rep but do have access to special events and leadership opportunities. This "application" is more of a sign-up sheet that puts you on the list to receive information about FYC meetings, activities, etc. The sign-up sheet will not have a close date to maximize participation but it's better to sign up sooner rather than later to take full advantage of the opportunities and resources FYC offers!

Ananya Murthy's new article is up on The Compass! Check it out for an update on the outlook for peace in India-Pakistan relations.

"Although it seemed as though Pakistan and India were heading towards peace, the Pulwama attack has raised tensions between India and Pakistan to dangerous levels. In India, the attack spawned numerous anti-Pakistan protests, but has also caused civilian attacks. Kashmiris all across India are being targeted for their ties to the region, with several reports of harassment or assault over the last few weeks. An exodus of Kashmiri students and business professionals have returned to Kashmir from other parts of India for fear of being attacked. More than 20 female students living in a hostel were forced to lock themselves into their rooms after protestors gathered outside demanding their eviction."

Bidding adieu to Bashir? Sudan’s anti-government protests, explained | The Globe

Check out Raj Rao's new article on The Compass, where we learn about anti-government protests in Sudan, and what this could mean for the Sudanese dictator.

"On 19 December 2018, protests erupted in the northeastern Sudanese city of Atbara. From there the protests spread to cities around the country, such as Rabak in the south, el-Gadarif in the east, and towns in the Darfur region. Chanting for “freedom, peace, justice, and the downfall of the regime,” the protesters transitioned from anger over economic injustice into a call for Omar al-Bashir, Sudan’s dictator, to resign."

Paweł Adamowicz’s murder: an ominous sign of the times | The Globe

Check out this new article from The Compass by Lorenzo Marchetti on the murder of a Polish mayor and what it says about politics in Poland and the world.

"Charity events are supposed to be gathering moments for people who support good causes. Despite possible differences, including partisan affiliation, those who attend usually share a common goal. On Sunday, 13 January 2019, thousands of people gathered in Gdansk, Poland, for the Great Orchestra of Christmas charity event, to raise funds to buy medical equipment for children. Just before the conclusion of the event, Gdansk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz was stabbed while speaking to the crowd. Policemen arrested the assailant and rushed the mayor to the nearest hospital, where he died from his wounds after five hours of surgery."

There is a really interesting conference in DC this Friday and Saturday on Christianity and National Security. In my latest book I have written a few poems about George Washington. Here are the titles: "The Great spirit Protects That Man" "The Battle of Saratoga" "Miracle-Needed Time "Search Again" "Yorktown's Deciding Windfall" I hope you will have the time to read this book. You will be glad that you did! The book can be found on B&N: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/history-and-he…/1128633125… 'Edward McCoul raises the curtain on select historic dramas of the past so that you may see the hand of God entering into the mundane and bringing unexplainable, favorable, almost unbelievable results in challenging circumstances.'
Hey, I know this is late notice, but does anyone happen to have two extra tickets for the Elliott School commencement event?
A great opportunity for people of all backgrounds that are interested in leadership and Model UN!
Given that this organization is I democracy, I do not see the problem with write-in candidates. I am hereby petitioning the IAS to remove this tyrannical and authoritarian rule in order to facilitate free and fair elections. Thank you. Carly Aquino
VOTE! And Help my business plan win at the #EnrichHER Spark Conference. I’m a 2011 GWSB Grad! I recently submitted a business proposal idea to a local women’s entrepreneurship pitch competition. The broad idea is to help women travelers connect so they can match with those able, willing, and wanting to explore in the same location, time frame, and budget. The company is called Detination Go and the working logo has a hidden ‘S’ at the center for sisterhood. As a traveler myself I know how hard it can be trying to plan your bucket list around outside budgets and schedules; I also know what it is so couch surf and travel via hostels getting to know new people at every stop. I want to empower women to cross off bucket list items, make long lasting & global friendships, and most of all, have fun! As one of over 200 applicants, I am now in round 2 with only the top 50 left. I need your help getting to the next round so I can pitch live to an audience filled with potential investors and start up strategists! Click the link below, click on my name/photo icon, continue to the next page and register with your name and email. That’s all! There are additional tasks you can do to earn more votes and I would appreciate as many as possible. Please forward to friends & family and post the link below to your social media outlets letting them know about my business! Thank you so much in advanced!
