It has come to our attention that a certain individual (“Individual 1”) has been tweeting about an ICE operation. We wish to remind you of a number of things:
1. The purpose is to create panic. Don’t panic.
2. Remember that ICE needs a removal order to deport people. If you do not have a removal order, ICE can only start a legal effort to remove you. If you have an order, talk to a lawyer now about reopening your case.
3. ICE needs a warrant signed by a judge to enter your home. Unless you let them. Don’t let them enter your home without a warrant signed by a judge.
4. You do not have to answer any questions. You do not have to sign anything.
5. If you are afraid of returning to your home country, say so.
6. You have rights. You have allies. You have options. Learn them.

Experts: Obama has authority to protect more migrants from deportation

"The president also could expand his controversial 2012 program aimed at stopping the deportation of many young immigrants brought to the United States as children, the panel of law professors and other legal experts said during a telephone news conference.

Obama weighs business-friendly immigration actions.

President Barack Obama soon after Labor Day is expected to announce executive actions to refine deportation priorities and to potentially expand a program that gives safe harbor and work permits to qualifying illegal immigrants. But the White House also is reviewing actions on issues that are priorities for businesses, according to administration and other officials, an effort that has received less notice. Businesses are mostly concerned with legal-immigration policy.

The White House is considering changes to immigration policy aimed at helping businesses, part of a broad review of procedures that also is likely to provide new protections for people now in the country illegally.

Mr. Obama, Your Move

"We don’t know the details. Mr. Obama and the Department of Homeland Security have not yet supplied the who, what, when or even, officially, whether. But Mr. Obama has promised to respond to Congress’s refusal to act on immigration reform. And the most obvious thing is to lift the threat of deportation from immigrants who should be the lowest priority for removal: those with citizen children, jobs, clean records and strong community ties. Some reports put the size of that group at four million to five million.

In truth, Mr. Obama is well within his authority to madden the right. His power to conduct immigration policy is vast. Congress has given the president broad flexibility and discretion to enforce immigration law. It has also given him the resources to deport about 350,000 to 400,000 people a year, as Mr. Obama has done, relentlessly."

Since Congress refused to act on immigration reform, it is the president’s duty to use his executive authority to protect unauthorized immigrants from deportation.

Fast track of migrant children's cases stirs alarm among judges, lawyers

"Due process means a fair process that enables a person to come before a judge or adjudicator and explain what has happened, such that a judge can make a decision to whether the individual qualifies for the laws' protections," said Gregory Chen, a director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. "If we do it in condensed way, it's rushed justice that results in no justice at all."

A Justice Department push for immigration courts to prioritize cases involving unaccompanied minors has raised concern among lawyers and judges.

Survey | Nearly 7-in-10 Americans See Unaccompanied Children at Border as Refugees

A majority (69%) of Americans say that children arriving from Central America should be treated as refugees and allowed to stay in the U.S. if authorities determine it is not safe for them to return to their home countries.

Majorities of Democrats (83%), independents (66%), and Republicans (52%) believe these children should be treated as refugees, but Republicans are more divided; 42% of Republicans believe they should be treated as illegal immigrants.

White House pursuing plan to expand immigrant rights

Officials signaled strongly Friday that Obama's move would shield from deportation large numbers of immigrants living in the country illegally, as advocacy groups have demanded.

Roughly 5 million of the estimated 11 million people who entered the country without legal authorization or overstayed their visas could be protected under a leading option the White House is considering, according to officials who discussed the proposals on condition of anonymity.

Even as President Obama grapples with the crisis of immigrant children arriving at the Southwest border, White House officials are laying the groundwork for a large-scale expansion of immigrant rights that would come by executive action within weeks.

Most Migrant Children Released Into Care of Relatives

A total of 30,340 children have been released to sponsors — primarily parents and other relatives — from the start of the year through July 7, according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement

Sponsors must be vetted by social workers, including a criminal-background check, and must also promise to make sure that the child appears for required immigration court appearances.

So far this year, about 30,000 children who crossed illegally have been taken in by parents and other relatives in state with large Central American communities.
