Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Yesterday, we shared with you a new feature added to eBenefits, and in the comments, we were surprised to find that some of you had never even heard of eBenefits--a web portal created by--and continues to be jointly operated by--VA AND the Department of Defense. Some of eBen's notable features allow you to download VA Letters, transfer Post-9/11 Education Benefits, update Direct Deposit and Contact Information, download VA Home Loan Certificate of Eligibility, and Apply for Disability Compensation, among others.

It's this last point specifically, in addition to the general eBen overview above, that we'd like to highlight right now. The YouTube link below briefly illustrates how VA is transforming the claims process through eBenefits.

Uncle Sam Wants Who? - By Rosa Brooks

Want to know who we are? We're neither heroes nor victims, but a product of our communities.

Last week, I wrote about common stereotypes of military personnel: Much of the time, the media and the general public seem to assume that those in the military are either heroes, villains, or victims. In the first narrative, servicemembers are courageous, selfless patriots to whom the rest of societ...

Another example of a veteran continuing to serve after her time in uniform.

Felicia used her fellowship to serve at Operation Homefront, where she utilized her 17 years of military experience to provide support to military families, veterans, and wounded warriors. She wasn't finished. This month, she received her Master's in Counseling and will continue serving her community. Congratulations, Felicia.
