For too long, Congress has abdicated its Article 1 authority to decide matters of war and peace, allowing the executive branch to interpret AUMFs far beyond their intent.

This year’s NATO Summit represented more than just 30 democratic allies coming together to discuss shared interests, threats, and challenges. Today’s Summit – following the G7 – was an opportunity for President Biden to demonstrate to our transatlantic allies and to the world that the United States is back and ready to lead.

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to collective defense and to the democratic values that serve as the foundation of the alliance; commitments which the former president’s America alone policies undermined.

"I applaud the Biden administration for its commitment to share an additional 500 million vaccines with 92 countries around the world. None of us are safe until all of us are safe.

These American-made vaccines, along with the USG support for COVAX, $10 billion for international assistance in the American Rescue Plan, and the previous 80 million dose donation demonstrate America’s leadership in the fight against COVID-19."

Chair Gregory Meeks and Michael McCaul, along with Albio Sires and Congressman Mark Green, Chair and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, Migration and International Economic Policy, and Rep. María Elvira Salazar's response to the arbitrary detention of Arturo Cruz:

"With his popular support plummeting, Ortega appears willing to abuse state resources, trample the law, and violate the human rights of his fellow citizens with impunity, all in a desperate effort to maintain power."

We are shocked and dismayed by the second military-led coup in Mali in less than one year, and we strongly condemn the role of the military junta in disrupting the civilian-led transition and progress made towards national elections in 2022.

We commend ECOWAS and the African Union for suspending the Malian government from their regional bodies in the wake of the unlawful detention and forced resignation of Mali’s civilian interim president and prime minister.

This Pride Month, while we celebrate the LGBTQI+ community, we also recommit to fighting for equality worldwide.

Ryanair flight carrying wanted Belarusian journalist forced to land in Minsk

The forced landing of a Ryanair flight to arrest a journalist who covered the stolen election and peaceful protests in Belarus is an outrageous provocation and affront to the rule of law.

The transatlantic community must demand Raman Pratasevich’s release.

Roman Protasevich faces up to 15 years in prison in Belarus and is in custody after his plane was forced to land because of a purported bomb threat.

The committee’s hearing with Special Presidential Envoy John Kerry has reinforced the urgency in our taking decisive and immediate action to address the existential threat of climate change.

America, in close coordination with our international partners, can overcome this threat through innovation and collective action. Doing so makes environmental and economic sense. A clean energy economy will create tens of thousands of good, high paying American jobs. It will ensure the United States will not be left behind as the world shifts to a green technology future. And, it will safeguard our planet for future generations.
