Greetings Fellow Graduate Students,

The editors of the Gallaudet Chronicle of Psychology would like to extend you all a warm welcome back to school, and we hope you are enjoying the semester thus far! We have a few announcements to make regarding the Chronicle. A new co-editor, Haley Popp, has joined the team, taking the place of Joanna Dziura. Joanna’s profound contribution to Chronicle is truly unforgettable, and we wish her well in the rest of her time at Gallaudet and beyond! Not to worry, as Joanna will be advising your current co-editors so you may see her contributions from time to time.

Additionally, the latest issue of Chronicle is currently in the publication process, so you will see Volume 4, Number 1 in the near future! We could not have done it without our wonderful authors and team of reviewers, and we are so excited to share their work with you soon.

We want to also announce that the Chronicle is starting the process of creating the first issue of 2017 as well. We would like YOU to join our publication as an author in the next issue of the Gallaudet Chronicle of Psychology. If you are a graduate student with an original manuscript related to psychology, please consider its submission. We are looking for article submissions that related to a variety of topics in psychology, especially (but not limited to) issues in d/Deafness or disability. If you are not sure whether your manuscript fits our criteria, please refer to the attached document for more information on article submission, or contact the editors ([email protected]). Previous publications have included empirical research, literature reviews, theoretical papers, case studies, and reviews of professional issues of psychologists working with special populations.

There are so many benefits that come from authorship in our journal! You will be a published author, (which goes on your CV!) and this is a minimally stressful way to become published for the first time. We aim to mimic professional, peer-reviewed journals, so you will learn about the paperwork involved in manuscript submission in addition to gaining experience in communicating with editors and masked peer reviewers to improve and polish your article. Our process is author-friendly and seeks to encourage improvement in your work in as unintimidating and helpful of a manner as possible. The journal is here to facilitate your learning and to support your development as a professional in psychology. In addition, your work will formally be available to other professionals and your peers but also freely available to the public via our website. Not only will your manuscript help educate and inform your peers on important issues, but becoming an author also gives our reviewers a chance to develop their skills. Take this as another opportunity to be an active part of the academic psychology community here at Gallaudet and get involved in your own professional development!

Don’t miss out on the chance to be able to be a published author in just a few short months. Send your article to us by March 31st. We will send out periodic emails throughout March to remind you about our submission deadline.

In addition to article submissions, we are announcing a call for peer reviewers. We are looking for peer reviewers with a variety of backgrounds and expertise in psychology, so that we can best match each manuscript with a suitable reviewer. We take peer-review very seriously at the Chronicle and are looking for those who can critically evaluate a manuscript while upholding the highest ethical standards. This is another professional experience that allows you to boost your CV and make yourself more competitive for applying for internship. It also is another low-stress opportunity to get an inside look at the publication process before you become involved with other professional publications. Peer reviewers assist the editors with reviewing manuscripts for suitability for inclusion in our publication. The experience involves critically evaluating a de-identified manuscript and providing constructive, professionally written feedback for the author. In a way, you will also be published because although we do not divulge who reviewed each author’s manuscript, we acknowledge you in our final publicized product by including your name in a list of our reviewers. Please if you are considering becoming a peer-reviewer for the Chronicle, review the attached documents to learn more.

Email us ([email protected]) letting us know of your interest by March 31st, and attach your CV. We will send out periodic emails reminding you about this opportunity, but please contact us as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. You can always ask us in person or reach us through e-mail ([email protected] or [email protected]).

Sincerely,
Gregory Farber and Haley Popp

CALL FOR ARTICLES for the 1st Issue of the 4th Volume:

Greetings,

We want YOU to join us in the efforts of making this publication worth bragging about and submit YOUR manuscript for publication in the 1st issue of the 4th volume of the Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology. The due date is Friday, January 15, 2016.

The Chronicles was established in 2007 with the vision of providing a forum for the Gallaudet psychology students to share their ideas, both research and theoretically oriented, with the broader community. Chronicles was developed to be a unique student-run journal that truly reflects the working, living, and learning that takes place here at Gallaudet and within the Deaf Community. We recreated it and are staying true to the Chronicles’ original vision. The Chronicles will always remain a place where students and alumnae can share their theoretical and empirical research interests with a larger community. We are seeking any work that fulfills the requirements of professional publication, regardless of its form. We accept essays, personal narratives, theoretical and empirical writings, case studies, critiques, etc. Although texts with the relevance to the issues of deafness and disability are especially welcomed, the Chronicles accepts materials related to a wide variety of topics in psychology. We want to highlight the fact that the Chronicles is open to all departments, that is, students/ individuals from other departments are strongly encouraged to submit their papers, as long as they are related to psychology. We strongly believe that the Chronicles comes with many benefits for the students for all the graduate departments. It provides a forum for students share the unique ideas, insights and perspectives of the Gallaudet student. It exposes graduate students to the publication process. Chronicles is carefully modeled after well-renown peer-reviewed psychological journals and it closely mimics their process of publication, such as a peer review and editing process.

In general, the Chronicles provides you with a great opportunity to learn how to write a publishable article and provides exposure to the publishing process. The authors will have an opportunity to learn how to write a good article and how the publication process works. Since the Chronicles is modeled after professional peer-reviewed journals, we require the same kind of documents when submitting manuscript. However, although we attempt to proceed in a professional manner, we do so in an author-friendly way. By participating in Chronicles, your future chances for publication in professional psychological journals can improve. In addition, due to the fact that our journal is peer-reviewed and that we will provide authors with a unique online link to their article, publication in Chronicles can be listed in Curriculum Vitae (CV) as a professional publication. The role of reviewer is often overlooked by the students as a way of gaining research experience, however, we want to emphasize that any professional journal that is looking for reviewers requires from the applicants previous experiences as a reviewer.

Please visit our website for the article submission guidelines and reviewer guidelines which will help you think now about the ways in which you can become involved in the publication process of the Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology. If you have any questions, you can email us at any of the following addresses: ([email protected], [email protected], or [email protected]). We are looking forward to your interest to participate in publication of Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology 4th volume and making it a journal we all can be proud of!

Sincerely,
Joanna Dziura and Gregory Farber, Student Editors-in-Chief

Chronicles of Psychology, Volume 3, Number 2 - Gallaudet University

We are very excited to inform that the new issue of the Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology is now published online on the Gallaudet website (http://www.gallaudet.edu/psychology/chronicles-of-psychology/3(2)2015.html)!

During the summer of 2015, we sent our call for articles asking our fellow students to submit a variety of writings related to psychology. The results exceeded our most optimistic expectations - many students volunteered to serve as reviewers and many others decided to send us their manuscripts. From the submitted articles, with the immense help of our invaluable reviewers, we decided to accept five very diverse works. Thus, in this volume, you will find a varied range of styles from theoretical essays and case study to a critique. We hope that you will find this volume interesting and that future Chronicles' issues will continue to present the fascinating works of our students.

Sincerely,

Joanna Dziura and Gregory Farber,

Good morning all,

We want to remind you that you still have time to submit an article for the 4th volume of the Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology.

We want to remind you that we are not expecting a world-shattering articles! Chronicle was created as a learning platform, a place where we can present our work to other students and where we can learn how publishing process works in a stress- and judgment-free environment. We are not trying to create additional work for you, we all know we are busy enough! But, if you wrote a paper for any class on a topic that you find interesting, you already have most of the work done. All you have to do is edit it to fit the criteria of submission and send it to us at [email protected] by tomorrow, February 28th.

How will you benefit? First, you will become a published author. Remember! Having publications increase your chances to get preferred internship. Gallaudet Chronicles is an official peer-reviewed journal and having an article in it counts as publication that can be put in your CV. Second, by submitting your paper to Chronicles, you will learn about the process of submission in a stress-free way, which will make preparing articles for submission to professional journal in the future much easier. Finally, by showing us new areas of research interests that we maybe never thought about, you are helping all of us become better professionals.

So go through your old papers, chose one or more and adapt it/them to fit the submission criteria! Remember, we are not looking for empirical research (although if you have one and want to send it, go for it)! Rather, we are looking for the whole range of papers, including theoretical or conceptual papers, comprehensive literature reviews, case studies that highlight critical or overlooked issues of assessment and/or therapy with persons from minority and/or disability groups, and manuscripts addressing the unique challenges of psychologists working with exceptional clients. Basically, if you wrote something that is interesting and related to psychology, you most likely have something that we would be interested to see! The specifics are explained in more details in the “Guidelines for Article Submissions,” which you can find at the Chronicles website http://www.gallaudet.edu/psychology/chronicles_of_psychology.

Don't miss the chance to make yourself more competitive in the internship battle! Use this opportunity to your advantage! Send your article to [email protected] by tomorrow, 28th of February.

If you have any related question, please let us know. You can always ask us in person or reach us through e-mail ([email protected] or [email protected]).

Greetings Fellow Psychology Graduate Students,

We want to remind you that you still have the opportunity to submit an article for review for the 4th volume of the Gallaudet Chronicles of Psychology. If you still desire or are considering submitting an article for review, just a reminder that the deadline for the article submissions is on February 28th.

Even with the deadline closely approaching, there is still enough time to submit an article. And we strongly encourage you to do so! We want to remind you that the Chronicle is looking for materials related to a wide variety of topics in psychology even though articles with relevance to the issues of deafness and disability are preferred. We also would like to remind you that we are not expecting a world-shattering articles! Chronicle was created as a learning platform, a place where we can present our work to other students and where we can learn how publishing process works in a stress- and judgment-free environment.

All you have to do is edit it to fit the criteria of submission and send it to [email protected] by February 28th.

All of us are working on so many unique topics and yet, we really don’t know much about each other research interests. We don’t share our thoughts and works and we all stand alone. Joanna and I strongly believe that it is a high time to change that. We all work so very hard each semester, writing number of essays and papers that is seen by only two people - the author himself and the professor. Then, the paper is simply put to the drawer and forgotten. Yet, it really does not have to be this way. We all could benefit from you submitting your paper to Chronicles.

How will you benefit? First, you will become a published author. Remember! Having any publications increase your chances to get preferred internship. Gallaudet Chronicles is an official peer-reviewed journal and having an article in it counts as publication that can be put in your CV. Pretty much anything that is interesting and relevant to our education as psychologists is a good fit for Chronicles. The specifics are explained in more details in the “Guidelines for Article Submissions,” which you can find at Chronicles website http://www.gallaudet.edu/psychology/chronicles_of_psychology.html.
Don’t miss the chance to make yourself more competitive in the internship battle! Use this opportunity to your advantage! Send your article to [email protected] by 28th of February.
