famm.org FAMM works to change mandatory sentencing laws through the legislative process on the federal and state levels, participating in precedent-setting legal cases and through public education. Federal advocacy campaign FAMM challenges federal mandatory minimums by educating Congress and the U.S. Sentencing Commission about the need to replace unjust laws with fair and proportionate sentencing policy. FAMM works with thousands of prisoners and families across the country whose lives are adversely affected by mandatory minimums and provides a platform for our members to speak out against federal sentencing laws. Our litigation project provides litigation assistance and pro bono counsel for sentencing issues considered by the U.S. Supreme Court and lower federal courts. State advocacy campaign FAMM promotes the reform of state sentencing laws in a number of states throughout the country, including on-the-ground campaigns in Massachusetts and Florida. We depend heavily on our membership to advocate for sentencing reform in every state. Communications FAMM works with the media to publicize the injustices of federal and state mandatory sentencing laws and to shine a light on the human face of sentencing injustice. Members and the public are kept up-to-date with the latest sentencing news through FAMM's website, e-Alerts and social media. .

The Unique Problems Facing Native American Youths in the Criminal Justice System

"A Native youth can be prosecuted in three courts—tribal, state, and federal. Tribal courts generally handle less serious offenses, while the federal and state systems tackle serious crimes, such as rape and murder. Unlike the government’s relationship with states needs no tribal approval before proceeding against a Native youngster."
- Rolnick, federal prosecutor (via Slate.com)

“There’s this whole block of Native American young people, who by accident of history, are now in federal detention. And it’s a travesty.”

Our Story

We are FAMM, advocating smarter and fairer sentencing and reforms since 1991. In addition to the efforts of FAMM's staff, our members work together to advocate for incarcerated individuals and educate the public and policy makers about sentencing reform. FAMM's page serves as a platform for exchanging information, asking questions, and forging connections to further our mission of abolishing all mandatory minimums.

Me I am so upset with BOP. McDowell West Virginia had no cases until October making it a transfer station for other inmates coming from all states. Now they have 12 inmates and 8 staff they keep the inmates from the other inmates but rotate the staff . Which puts COVID everywhere in prison. I have called Bureau of Prisons. No answer. West Va Governor I have E mailed. No answer. Warden of the prison busy . So my son is lock down can’t make any phone calls or do any Emails. I ask the guard how did he think the inmates could this he said I don’t know.Once they are in prison they are forgotten not by me this is my new mission.

kevin ring who do u report to if a facility isnt handing out stimulus forms to inmates as i just spoke with the superintendent at western tidewater regional jail and she stated they dont have any paperwork from irs and further more they were told its being appealed
Any word on the hearing on Lompoc today???
I have a question about my daughter in Tallahassee FCI. (Home confinement)
Can someone please advise me on who to ask for help with this problem. My son went to the dentist to have a cavity filled. The dentist said he wouldn't do a filling because of covid but he would pull the tooth. This doesn't make sense because there is a much higher chance of infection with an extraction as opposed to a simple filling. My son wrote this up and sent it to administration, but I would like to help him, since it's doubtful they will. Any advice on who I can contact. Thank you.
If anyone in the south carolina area please come out and support breaking the chain a free sc movement on October 30th at 1PM to protest and rally for all the incarcerated individuals.Let get our demands heard if u have any questions feel free to inbox me
It killed my husband in 3 weeks... they are waiting to long to send inmates to the hospital. They are not providing any useful meds!!! Tylenol does not cut it. My husband died because the covid-19 attacked his lungs and after 3 tries with the ventilator he passed away this past weekend! 💔💔😭😭😫😫 WHERE WAS HIS RIGHTS TO RECIEVE PROPER MEDICAL CARE?? They must move faster with those who develop respitory distress. COVID-19 is deadly. My husband was perfectly healthy with no underlying health conditions going in.
😶😶😶😶
Question, when it comes to writing the judge that sentenced my loved one, who do I write if that judge retired?
