Congressman Roscoe Bartlett Salutes Wounded Warriors at the Fort Detrick National Disability Employm

In part because I am the chairman of the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces of the House Armed Services Committee, I was a featured speaker today at the Fort Detrick National Disability Employment Awareness Month Observance. It is one of my greatest privileges as a member of Congress and is always a humbling honor for me to meet wounded warriors. Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander Colonel Gregory D. Gadson and other wounded warriors embody our human spirit. Wounded warriors demonstrate daily to their families, friends, neighbors and co-workers that it is our will and opportunity to focus on what we can do, not what we can’t do that determines how we live our lives. I am awed by wounded warriors who say, yes, I may have a disability, but I am not disabled and who seek out opportunities and apply the can-do attitude that they learned serving in our military to continue making contributions and giving back to our society in myriad ways. I salute each and every one of them. Thank you for your service and sacrifices. Thank you for your hard work to share your gifts and talents with other Americans. Thank you for your example to us of leadership, human dignity and the value of work. http://tinyurl.com/bze4axk

Hurricane hits U.S. East Coast after slamming Caribbean a week earlier

We can't avoid major storms. The best and only thing that we can do is to take common sense steps to prepare to be self-sufficient to manage on our own for several days and to be more resilient to recover from any damage inflicted. I was heartened during a tour of Frederick County today to learn that most residents have weathered Super Storm Sandy well so far. This article from the Episcopal News Service about the preparations by members of the community and the support they are offering to each other and neighbors throughout the country. T

"Sharon Tillman, director of communications for the Diocese of Maryland, said she had been reassured and encouraged by Episcopal Relief & Development’s preparatory work in the days leading up to the storm, noting that the agency’s Katie Mears had mobilized all the disaster coordinators in potentially affected dioceses to ensure that they were connected and prepared.

“From Virginia to New York, we were on an e-mail list, helping each other out and sharing information,” Tillman told ENS during an Oct. 30 telephone call.

Tillman said there had been no reports of damage to diocesan churches or parishes, but that the main concern was in western Maryland, which had been hit by snowstorms."

Merry Christmas my friend! I used to write for the CC Times and I'm sure you thought I was a political animal. Not the case. I just want people to wake up i.e. EMP, government waste, etc. Sucks.
Hello Mr. Bartlett...all of a sudden you came to mind and I was wondering where you are and how you're doing, Sir! I can never forget our interactions over the years, not many, but memorable! Like the time you wrote a letter to Frederick News-Post publisher George Delaplaine, Jr. in my defense because one medical doctor accused me of being unprofessional at one of your public hearings in Frederick. You wrote that whenever you've interacted with this reporter, I've been a gentleman and acted professionally. Then you intervened on my behalf with Immigration Service. !!! Thank you. Hope you're doing well and in good health and spirits! Ike Wilson, former News-Post reporter
Hi Dr. Bartlett! You came to my mind today and I just was ted to say hi to you. Hope all is well with you and yours. Thank you for all the years of service you have done in Congress. Take care and have a wonderful summer!
