Rescue 2 is one of three heavy rescue companies in the City of Washington DC., located at 5101 Georgia Ave. NW. Rescue 2 operates with a 2009 Seagrave Maruder II Heavy Duty Rescue.

It is powered by a Detroit Series 60 Diesel engine with an Allison Automatic Transmission. It is equipped with an AMKUS ultimate system, a VanAir PTO driven air compressor, and a onboard 30kW generator. The Rescue carries a full complement of firefighting tools including Thermal Imagers for the five riding positions, Rescue saws including an air operated saw off the VanAir system, Acetylene torch, Slice Pak, Petro-Gen torch and many more forcible enrty tools. Rescue 2's main discipline within the Special Operations Division is Confined Space. We carry an Air Source Combo Cart along with 1200 feet of air line and 4 escape bottles. All the rescues in the city carry a full array of rope rescue equipment, with 400' ropes being the longest. Water rescue equipment includes an Ocean ID (Banana Boat) carried on the rescue and (2) inflatables carried by the support unit housed in quarters. We also carry wet suits and Mustang Ice Commander Rescue Suits.

June 12,2015. Platoon No 1 was dispatched to Mississippi Ave., SE for the auto accident with people trapped. Rescue 2 was at the quarters of the Fireboat at the time. Photos by Vito Maggiolo
June 6, 2015. Members of #3 Platoon responded to 1423 Madison St., NW for the report of a house fire. Rescue 2 arrived on the scene first with heavy smoke conditions. After entering the residence it was determined that the fire originated in the basement and this info was relayed to incoming units. The fire traveled through the walls of this home and involved all 2 1/2 stories of this residence.
June 6, 2015. Platoon No. 4 members of Rescue 2 along with Rescue 3 were dispatched to the new African American Museum of History and Culture at the intersection of 14th and Constitution Aves., NW for the report of an injured construction worker on the roof of this building under construction. it was decided to use a platform on the scene to remove the worker who was in cardiac arrest. June 6, 2015. Platoon No. 3. Rescue Co 2 was special called on the Box Alarm to 1610 Riggs Pl., NW for the rowhouse fireat approx. 0245 hrs.. Rescue 2 was assigned to search the third floor of a 3 story rowhouse with fire on all three floors. Two occupants of the house were located on the third floor and due to the extent of their injuries were left in place. Rescue 2 operated for approx.an hour and half on this alarm. Never Forget. May 30, 1999, three members are severely burned at a townhouse fire in NE. Two of the members died in the line of duty, FF Anthony "Sauce" Phillips of Engine 10 on May 30 and FF Louis Matthews of Engine 26 on May 31. FF Joe Morgan of Engine 26 received burns over 60% of his body and was latter forced to retire. May Tony and Louis Rest in Peace.
May 28,2015. Members gathered at quarters for a retirement dinner for FF Dave Ayres who retired from #2 platoon. Congratulations Dave, may you have a happy and healthy retirement.
May 27,2015. Platoon 1 extricated 2 from this early morning MVA at 14th & Aspen Sts., NW
May 15, 2015. The funeral for 24 year veteran Lt. Kevin McRae of Engine 6 Platoon 4. Kevin died in the line of duty on May 6 at a High Rise fire at 1330 7th St., NW. May you rest in Peace.
May 14, 2015. An early afternoon fire on Platoon 4 turned out to be anything but ordinary. Members responded to 3201 Woodland Dr., NW for the house and upon arrival found fire on the second floor with extension into the 3rd and cockloft. Rescue 2 members found 3 adults in an adjacent room to the fire and removed all to the exterior where CPR was begun on all 3. A 4th victim, a 10 year old boy, was found in the room of origin and was not removed by firefighters. It was latter determined to be a quadruple homicide and is still under investigation. May 1, 2015. Rescue 2 was special called to the Watergate Complex, 2700 Va. Ave., NW for the collapse. Rescues 1 and 3 were already operating from the initial response. Members found 3 levels of the parking garage that had pancaked collapsed with unknown entrapment. Members operated for approx. 6 hrs. before being returned.

April 19, 2015. While returning from a box alarm 2 blocks away, members of Rescue 2 were dispatched to 2526 17th St.,NW for the bldg. fire. Rescue 2 arrived along with Engine 4 and found a fire on the roof deck that burned through the roof and ignited a room off on the top floor of this bldg.. Photos by Vito.
April 6, 2015- Members from Platoon 2 had an early morning fire at 1007 Kenyon St., NW with companies from the 4th Battalion.

Rescue 2 responded to 5810 Eastern Ave., NE with units from the 1st & 4th Battalions for the report of a house fire. Units found the 1st floor off with heavy packrat conditions. One occupant was removed from the home and was pronounced DOA.
On March 26th BFC Bernie Holt retired from the DC Fire Dept. after more than 30 years of service. Chief Holt was the Special Operations Chief on #3 platoon at the time of his retirement. Members from the Special Operations Battalion along with many others celebrated his retirement at the quarters of Rescue 1 & Engine 2. Congratulations Chief and enjoy your retirement. Members of the DC Firefighters Emerald Society Pipes & Drums visited retired Firefighter Ben Self on his birthday on March 17th and played a few tunes for him.

Members used the cold weather in the month of February to use the Tidal Basin for their annual Ice Rescue Drill. This is where the paddle boats are with the Jefferson Memorial in the background. The ice was 9" thick at the end of February.

On 2-22-15, Rescue 2 responded to 730 24th St., NW for the report of an apartment fire. First arriving units reported a unit off on the 6th floor with heavy smoke conditions. Doug retired as a BFC and his son is now assigned to E24 #4 platoon who share the quarters with Rescue 2.
At 3:15 am on the morning of February 7 the members of #3 platoon responded on the Box Alarm to 1386 Nicholson St., NW for the report of a house fire. Upon arrival there was fire showing from the second floor of a 2 story wood frame house. Rescue 2 members removed one male occupant to the front of the building, all other searches were negative.
On February 4, 2015 the members of #1 platoon responded to a MVA with E22 and T11 in the 1200 Blk. of Aspen St., NW. Rescue 2 arrived on the scene and found a vehicle overturned with one occupant inside. After stabilizing the vehicle, members used the AMKUS tools to remove the victim.
