La’Kisha Cole | Lung Cancer Survivor | Faith Over Fear

When you hear the word cancer, most people think death sentence. I’m living proof that it’s not. I am a fourteen-year lung cancer survivor. Out of every 14 people diagnosed with lung cancer, I was the one who beat itβ€”by the grace of God, my faith, and the prayers of my family and friends. In 2011, doctors told me I needed emergency surgery to

remove a tumor from my left bronchial tube. If the tumor had been any lower, my entire left lung would have been removed. After leaving the doctor’s office, I talked to God. I told Him I was scared, but I also told Him I chose to live. On the day of my surgery, doctors said I would be in the operating room for 4–6 hours. I didn’t reach recovery until late that night. Less than 24 hours after surgeryβ€”with tubes in my side and pain in my bodyβ€”I heard a voice telling me to get up and walk. Every step I took was a reminder that the enemy did not win. The doctors removed all the cancer and saved my lung. No radiation. What was supposed to take 1–2 years to heal was completely healed in just five months. My doctor said he had never seen anything like it before. I told him, β€œThen you don’t know my God.”

I share my story to remind others that faith is powerful, healing is possible, and your diagnosis does not define your destiny. If God can do this for me, imagine what He can do in your life.

🀍 β€œI’M STILL HERE.”

🀍 WARRIOR WEDNESDAY 🀍
Today I want to celebrate every warrior who is still here.

Maybe you're in treatment.
Maybe you're waiting for your next scan.
Maybe you're living with lung cancer every day.
Maybe you're a survivor looking back at how far you've come.
Maybe you're supporting someone you love.

Wherever you are in the journey...
YOU ARE STILL HERE. 🀍
And that matters.

As a 15-year lung cancer survivor, I've learned that sometimes we don't realize just how strong we are until we look back and see everything we've already made it through.

So today, don't worry about having the perfect words.
If you're still here, say it with me:
🀍 I'M STILL HERE.

Drop β€œI'M STILL HERE” in the comments if you're comfortable.
And if you're not ready to say anything, that's okay too. Just know that this community is standing with you. πŸ«‚πŸ€

🀍 DAY 31: THERE IS STILL HOPE 🀍
To whoever needs this reminder today:
Your diagnosis is not the end of your story.
There may be days when you're afraid.
There may be days when you're tired.
There may be days when you don't feel strong.

But please remember...
You are still here.
And as a 15-year lung cancer survivor, I know firsthand that life can continue after a diagnosis.
There can still be laughter.
There can still be love.
There can still be birthdays.
There can still be milestones.
There can still be dreams.
There can still be HOPE. 🀍

If today is a good day, celebrate it.
If today is a hard day, give yourself grace.
If you're waiting for answers, take it one day at a time.
And if you're feeling scared, remember that you don't have to walk this journey alone.

There is a whole community here cheering you on. 🀍
If you needed this reminder today, leave a 🀍 below.

πŸŽ‰πŸ€ 30 DAYS OF HOPE! πŸ€πŸŽ‰
WE MADE IT!
Today marks 30 days of intentionally showing up for There Is Hope for Lung Cancer. πŸ₯ΉπŸ€

When I started this journey, I wanted to create a place where survivors, warriors, caregivers, families, and everyone affected by lung cancer could come and find hope, encouragement, and community.

Over these 30 days, I've been reminded of something very important:
Sometimes you don't realize how many people need hope until you start sharing yours.
I've heard from survivors.
I've connected with people currently living with lung cancer.
I've celebrated milestones.
I've encouraged warriors.

And I've been reminded that every story matters.
As a 15-year lung cancer survivor, I don't take any of this for granted.
I created this page because I know what it's like to be on the other side of that diagnosis.
And if my story can give even ONE person the courage to keep going...
Then every post is worth it. 🀍

So today, I want to say THANK YOU.
Thank you for following.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for reacting.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for telling your stories.
And thank you for being part of this community.

🀍 30 days down. This is only the beginning.
Now I want to hear from YOU:
What would you like to see more of on There Is Hope for Lung Cancer?
🀍 Survivor stories
🀍 Encouragement
🀍 Educational information
🀍 Warrior check-ins
🀍 Live conversations
🀍 Community spotlights
🀍 Something else?
Tell me below! πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Let's continue building a community where no one has to face lung cancer alone.

🀍 SUNDAY REFLECTION 🀍
Sometimes we get so focused on where we're going that we forget to stop and look at how far we've come.

To my lung cancer family:
Take a moment today and think about your journey.
Think about the days you didn't know how you were going to make it...
The appointments.
The treatments.
The waiting.
The fear.
The tears.
The victories.
The milestones.
And then remind yourself:
"I'm still here." 🀍

As a 15-year lung cancer survivor, I know there have been moments in my journey when I couldn't see what was ahead.
But I kept taking the next step.
And here I am.

Maybe your journey doesn't look the way you thought it would.
Maybe you're still in the middle of the fight.
Maybe you're celebrating years of survivorship.
Wherever you are...
Look how far you've come.

You deserve to be proud of yourself. 🀍
If you're comfortable, finish this sentence:
"I'm proud of myself because __________."

I'll go first:
I'm proud of myself because I kept goingβ€”and I created a place where others can come and find hope. 🀍

🀍SATURDAY REMINDER: CELEBRATE THE LITTLE THINGS 🀍
Sometimes we wait for the BIG moments to celebrate.
The good scan.
The end of treatment.
The anniversary.
The milestone.
But what about the little things?
Getting out of bed.
Laughing with someone you love.
Taking a walk.
Enjoying your favorite meal.
Having a good day.
Making it through a difficult day.
Waking up this morning.
Those moments matter too. 🀍

As a 15-year lung cancer survivor, I've learned not to take the ordinary moments for granted.
Life is made up of little moments, and sometimes those little moments become our biggest blessings.

So today, my lung cancer family, I want you to celebrate ONE little thing.
It doesn't have to be cancer-related.
Maybe you had a great cup of coffee. β˜•
Maybe you laughed today. πŸ˜‚
Maybe you spent time with family. ❀️
Maybe you simply woke up feeling good.
Tell me one little thing you're celebrating today. 🀍
I'll go first:
I'm celebrating 28 days of showing up for this community. πŸ₯ΉπŸ€

🀍 FAITHFUL FRIDAY 🀍
Today, I'm grateful.
Not because everything in life is perfect.
Not because I haven't had difficult days.
But because I'm still here.

Fifteen years ago, lung cancer changed my life.
I didn't know what the future would hold.
I didn't know how many more birthdays I'd celebrate.

I didn't know how many more memories I'd make.
But here I am...
15 years later. 🀍
And every year, every birthday, every laugh, every hug, and every ordinary day feels like a gift.

To my fellow survivors and warriors:
Don't forget to celebrate the moments that may seem ordinary.

Waking up.
Laughing with your family.
Going to work.
Taking a walk.
Sitting outside.
Enjoying your favorite meal.
Simply being here.
Sometimes the ordinary moments are the extraordinary ones.

πŸ™πŸ½ Today, I'm grateful for life.
What is ONE thing you're grateful for today?
It doesn't have to be cancer-related.
Let's fill this page with gratitude. 🀍

🀍 A MESSAGE FOR SOMEONE NEWLY DIAGNOSED 🀍
If you were just diagnosed with lung cancer, I want you to know something:

You are not your diagnosis.
Right now, you may have a million questions.
You may be scared.
You may not know what to expect.
You may even wonder if you're ever going to feel like yourself again.
I understand.
I was once where you are.

And today, 15 years later, I'm still here. 🀍
Your journey will be your own. There may be difficult days, but there can also be good days, beautiful moments, milestones, laughter, and memories still waiting for you.

So to my lung cancer family:
What is ONE thing you would tell someone who was just diagnosed?
You don't have to write a long story.
Just one sentence.
Your words could be the words someone needs today.

🀍 I'll start:
"Take a breath. You don't have to figure everything out today."

There Is Hope for Lung Cancer.

🀍 WARRIOR WEDNESDAY CHECK-IN 🀍
Hey, my lung cancer family! It's Wednesday, so let's check in with each other. 🀍
No long story required. No explanation needed.
Just choose the emoji that describes you TODAY:
🀍 I'm feeling hopeful
πŸ’ͺ🏽 I'm still fighting
πŸ™πŸ½ I need prayer
😊 I'm having a good day
πŸ«‚ I'm supporting someone I love
❀️ I'm grateful to be here
πŸ˜” Today is a hard day
Whatever you're feeling today, there is room for you here.
And remember: having a hard day doesn't make you a weak warrior. 🀍
I'll go first: 🀍
I'm grateful to be here, grateful for 15 years of survivorship, and grateful for the opportunity to remind someone else that there is hope.
Now it's your turn.
Check in with ONE emoji. πŸ‘‡πŸ½

🀍 **WHAT I WISH I KNEW THEN...** 🀍

When I was first diagnosed with lung cancer, there were so many things I didn't know.

I didn't know what questions to ask.

I didn't know what the road ahead would look like.

I didn't know that one day I would be standing here **15 years later**, using my experience to encourage someone else.

If I could go back and talk to the woman I was when I first heard those words, I would tell her:

**"Breathe. Take it one day at a time. You don't have to have all the answers today."** 🀍

Now I want to hear from my lung cancer family.

If you could go back to the beginning of your journey, **what is one thing you wish you had known?**

It could be something serious, something practical, or simply something that helped you get through those first days.

You don't have to share your whole story.

Just one thing.

Your answer might be exactly what someone newly diagnosed needs to hear today. 🀍

**There Is Hope for Lung Cancer.**

🀍 **MONDAY REMINDER: BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE** 🀍

To my lung cancer family:

One of the most important things I've learned throughout my journey is this:

**Your voice matters.**

Ask questions.

Speak up when something doesn't feel right.

Take notes at your appointments.

Bring someone with you when you need support.

Don't be afraid to ask your healthcare team to explain something again.

And most importantly...

**Never be afraid to advocate for yourself.** 🀍

You know your body.

You know when something feels different.

And you deserve to be heard.

As a **15-year lung cancer survivor**, I encourage every warrior and survivor reading this to stay informed, stay involved in your care, and surround yourself with people who will stand beside you.

You are not just a patient.

**You are a person whose voice matters.**

🀍 If you believe in advocating for yourself, leave a 🀍 below.

And if you know someone who needs this reminder, please share it with them.
