The Democrats’ reckless spending has led to 40-year high inflation, a crushing labor shortage, and supply chain disruptions. This morning I talked about House Republican’s plan to restore our economy. The Republican’s Commitment to America is simple: we will work to improve the lives of everyday Americans and achieve sound money through fiscal discipline and budget enforcement. Watch here ➡️
Yesterday, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing with the CEOs of America’s largest retail banks. Instead of discussing a plan to support Americans worried about inflation and our economy, Democrats focused on appeasing progressive activists. Watch my opening remarks from the hearing here:
Inflation is making life unaffordable for Americans. But that didn’t stop the House Financial Services Committee Democrats from holding a markup of a grab bag of mostly partisan legislation that does nothing to provide relief for struggling families. Instead of working to ease the pain of Democrat-induced inflation or a potential recession, Democrats are more focused on distracting from their atrocious economic record. Watch my opening remarks at today’s markup here:
Happy Independence Day! Today, as we enjoy this holiday with friends and family across the Tenth District, let us remember our founding fathers and their belief in the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. God Bless America. 🇺🇸
Inflation is the worst its been in 40 years and President Biden is still looking for who to blame. While he continues to look for a scapegoat for the problems his policies created, the American people suffer. At last week’s hearing with Fed Chair Powell, I highlighted how it is actually the Democrats’ American Rescue Plan that the American people must be rescued from. Watch ⬇️
It remains clear that Financial Services Committee Democrats are more focused on scoring “wins” for politically vulnerable members than addressing the economic devastation caused by their reckless policies. Last Wednesday’s committee markup was just the latest example. In my opening remarks, I highlighted how the partisan legislation being marked up does nothing to stabilize consumer prices, bring down the cost of gas, or fix our broken supply chains. Watch my opening remarks here:
Instead of addressing forty-year high inflation, surging gas prices, and broken supply chains, Democrats wasted valuable floor time on another partisan messaging bill that will not become law. This week, it was H.R. 2543, a bill I like to call the Diverting Attention from Democrats’ Dismal Economy Act. Watch the remarks I made on the House floor opposing this legislation here:
It's clear House Democrats would rather talk about anything but the devastation their economic policies are causing. Today we are voting on a bill, H.R. 2543, that will do nothing to combat inflation. In remarks I delivered on the House floor I highlighted the concerns western North Carolinians have about rising prices and the Democrats' failure to address them.
Because of the Democrats’ failed economic policies, young families in the Tenth District are struggling to find the most basic necessity: baby formula. And even if they can find formula, many will struggle to afford it thanks to skyrocketing prices. Today, I joined my House Republicans colleagues in addressing the disastrous effects of the Biden Administration’s far-left agenda.
McHenry Delivers Opening Remarks at Markup on Russia
#ICYMI: On Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee held markups of several bills to further isolate the Putin regime from the international financial system in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. During the markup, I delivered opening remarks to emphasize the importance of holding Putin and Russia accountable while also helping the people of Ukraine. This is vitally important not just because of Russia; we must also remember China is watching too. Any sign of weakness or unwillingness to support democracies around the world will be noted, and potentially exploited, by growing threats like the Chinese Communist Party. Watch my opening remarks here:
McHenry Questions Witnesses at Financial Services Committee Hearing on Inflation
#ICYMI: I started off my questions at yesterday’s Financial Services Committee hearing by debunking the Democrats’ myths that the current surge in consumer prices is driven by corporate greed and supply chain bottlenecks. The real inflation equation is Democrats’ bad policies plus bad economics, equal bad outcomes for the American people.
McHenry Deliver Opening Remarks at Hearing on Inflation
After months of consumer prices surging at a record pace, Democrats have finally recognized that inflation is hurting American families. However, as today’s Financial Services hearing demonstrates, they’re more interested in blaming everyone but themselves for the effects of their own failed policies. Watch my opening remarks outlining how Democrats’ reckless fiscal policies fueled inflation.
McHenry to Democrats: This is No Way to Run the Country
In today’s Financial Services Committee hearing—which should have been held in July—I delivered opening remarks highlighting the long list of foreseeable problems that the Democrats have failed to address. From the mismanagement of billions of dollars in much-needed aid to renters impacted by the pandemic, businesses not being able to find workers, and rising consumer prices, it is clear that the Biden Administration’s policies aren’t working. Instead of addressing their failures, Democrats are doubling down on their $3.5 trillion dollar tax and spending spree. This is no way to run the country.
Today House Democrats supported legislation that would remove nearly all protections for the unborn. I am disgusted that these are the priorities of the House Democrat majority. I will always fight to protect the sanctity of human life. Click here to read my full statement on this terrible bill: https://mchenry.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=403029
McHenry Delivers Opening Remarks at September Reconciliation Markup
The Democrats’ partisan $3.6 trillion spending package would fundamentally restructure Americans’ relationship with the federal government, massively expanding its role in the lives of you and your family. In my opening remarks at today’s Financial Services Committee markup of portions of the proposal, I highlighted how Democrats’ tax-and-spending spree would be disastrous for our economic recovery—leading to sluggish growth, weak job creation, and further consumer price increases. McHenry Delivers Remarks in Opposition to Eviction Moratorium at House Rules Committee
When we make a promise to renters, it is our duty to honor it. Yet, the Biden Administration has failed to get emergency rental assistance funds to the COVID-impacted renters in need. That is why I, along with all the Republican Members of the Financial Services Committee, introduced the Renter Protection Act to help ensure pandemic relief was getting to COVID-impacted renters.
Instead, of taking up this bill last month and addressing this critical issue, Democrats focused on their partisan priorities. This morning I testified before the House Rules Committee to oppose the Dems' 11th-hour cover-up for President Biden's mismanagement of the ERA rental aid funding. Watch my testimony here:
McHenry Delivers Floors Speech Recognizing Purple Heart Homes
Today, I spoke on the House floor to recognize Purple Heart Homes celebrating their 750th completed project. Headquartered in Statesville, NC, Purple Heart Homes is a non-profit founded by combat-wounded Veterans to help aging and service-connected disabled Veterans meet their housing needs. I congratulate founder John Gallina and his team on their incredible accomplishments for our deserving heroes. Thank you for answering the call to serve.
McHenry Questions HUD Secretary Fudge
Yesterday, during the Financial Services Committee hearing I called out the Biden Administration for their gross mismanagement of the COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) programs. This program was designed to help American renters in their time of need but that is not happening. In fact, HUD Secretary Fudge answered “I have no idea” when asked how much of the money has actually been given to those in need. This is unacceptable. Watch my questions to Secretary Fudge during yesterday's hearing below.
