How can community and citizen science contribute to environmental decision-making? Many EPA, state, and tribal environmental programs are increasingly using community and citizen science for environmental monitoring and addressing social and environmental justice concerns.

A recent multi-stakeholder workshop explored gaps and needed improvements in data management that will allow for a more efficient flow of data from producers to users. This webinar will showcase community-oriented projects and share ideas from the workshop. Please attend this webinar to learn about the tools and practices used in these exciting community and citizen science projects and how EPA, states, and tribal governments can better support these efforts.

Over the weekend longtime friend, ITRC Board member, original ITRC board member, supporter, and all-around fantastic human being Ken Zarker passed away. Ken was the Manager of the Pollution Prevention & Regulatory Assistance Section of the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology).

This news comes with great sadness for ITRC as Ken was a beloved friend and colleague who dedicated endless hours to ITRC and so many environmental issues. Ken was a founding and active member of the Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council (ITRC) for more than 25 years, always serving as the go-to person for facilitating tough issues and bringing teams to consensus. From 2014 until 2019 he was the ITRC’s State Association Board Member.

In the wake of this loss, ITRC is honored to have had the privilege of working closely with Ken and is indebted to his contributions to ITRC as an organization. In the words of one Ecology colleague, “The world has lost a wonderful human being who dedicated himself to making the environment and his community better.” We at ITRC could not agree more and are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.
