Congress provides more than $3 for every dollar that JDRF donates to type 1 research! Time Magazine called JDRF "one of the nation's most forceful disease advocacy groups." When it comes to fighting type 1 diabetes, JDRF's strength lies in our numbers and the ability of our Advocates to work together to build bonds--bonds with one another, as well as with our Members of Congress. These relationships strengthen our community, provide support for those who are living with type 1 diabetes, and deliver our message--the need for a cure--faster and more effectively.

JDRF applauds the CDC for updating their COVID-19 prioritization to include #T1D as a high-risk condition. This is a big win for our community after months of continued efforts from the JDRF team.

We urge states that have not yet prioritized those with T1D for for COVID-19 vaccines to immediately adopt the CDC's revised guidelines to save lives and reduce the risk of complications. Read our full statement here: http://ow.ly/KSiw50EcC98

ICYMI: Last Friday the Biden Administration delayed implementation of a recently adopted rule that would largely eliminate drug rebates in Medicare Part D.

In the interest of reducing cost of insulin, JDRF remains committed to ending the rebate system for both public and commercial insurance programs. We see this rule as an important step to that end.

JDRF urges the Biden Administration to move swiftly to review this rule to clear the path for implementation. Get the facts – read our blogpost: https://www.jdrf.org/blog/2021/02/02/delay-on-rule-that-would-eliminate-medicare-part-d-drug-rebates/

As you’ve likely seen, the Biden Administration issued a 60-day freeze last week on newly published regulations including a rule on insulin. The #T1D community should know that there is no immediate impact on the price of insulin resulting from this action.

JDRF continues to pursue and support comprehensive and systemic reforms that reduce out-of-pocket costs of insulin for people with T1D, including engaging with the new Administration and the new Congress. Today, the Biden Administration delayed implementation of a recently adopted rule that would largely eliminate drug rebates in Medicare Part D.

JDRF has long supported ending the rebate system – which stands in the way of immediately reducing cost of insulin – for both public and commercial insurance programs. We see this rule as an important step to that end.

JDRF urges the Biden Administration to act expeditiously in their review to clear the path for this rule to be implemented – read our full statement here: https://www.jdrf.org/press-releases/jdrf-official-statement-on-delay-of-regulation-eliminating-current-system-of-drug-rebates-in-medicare-part-d/

Thank Congress for $450 Million in T1D Research Funding! - JDRF

JDRF is thrilled to share that Congress just passed a three-year renewal of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) totaling $450 million in critical #T1D research funding.

The T1D community has benefited immensely from the SDP since it was first enacted in 1997, and the program complements many of JDRF’s research priorities.

The SDP has helped scientists make significant advances including artificial pancreas technology, beta cell replacement techniques, improvements to continuous glucose monitors, & treatments for T1D complications like kidney disease & diabetic retinopathy.

These advancements bring us closer to cures, & - in the meantime - make it easier to lead healthy lives with T1D.

Our supporters’ tireless commitment to advancing our mission and advocating for the T1D community has brought us to this moment. THANK YOU! Join us now in saying ‘thank you’ to Congress today:

The Special Diabetes Program (SDP) funds critical research that has improved lives and moves us closer to cures for T1D.

JDRF is pleased to share that Congress reached an agreement on a long-term renewal of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) in the amount of $150 mil annually through September 30, 2024.

The SDP has been critical to the #T1D community, facilitating progress that improves lives and advances research to treat, prevent and ultimately find cures for T1D through the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

This important win is the direct result of our Diabetes Caucus champions U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Congresswoman Diana DeGette, Rep. Tom Reed, and advocates like you, who work tirelessly to advance our mission. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available!

Healthcare Principles - JDRF

Access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance is critical for millions of Americans living with pre-existing conditions such as #t1d. The Supreme Court heard arguments today on a case that could jeopardize healthcare principles for which JDRF has advocated for many years. While a decision on this case is not expected until June 2021, JDRF will continue to underscore to Congress and other decision makers the importance of insurance protections for people with T1D and, in the event of a negative court decision, will call for Congress to take up new legislation to address the issue to #DefendPreEx. For now, current law protections – which prevent insurance companies from denying insurance, limiting coverage, or charging more for insurance due to a pre-existing condition – remain in place. Learn more about JDRF's Healthcare Principles:

People with type 1 diabetes (T1D) need access to affordable, comprehensive health insurance that covers the care necessary to treat their diabetes. To survive, they rely on daily supplies of insulin and the tools required to manage T1D.

Thank Congress for $4.52 Million in T1D Research Funding! - JDRF

We are pleased to share with you that Congress has JUST passed a short-term, $4.52 million extension of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) as part of a bill that funds the Federal government through December 11, 2020. Thanks to on-going engagement by advocates like you, this short-term extension allows the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to continue to drive forward critical #T1D research priorities. The SDP is an important complement to JDRF-funded research, and improves lives while moving us closer to cures. While we are grateful for this short-term patch of funding, in the coming months we will need all the help we can get to secure a 4 to 5-year renewal of the SDP, and we’ll lean on you to help us get across the finish line! Say 'thank you' to your Representative and Senators today! www.jdrf.org/thankyou4SDP

Happy to share some positive news with our community related to COVID-19, and access to #T1D management tools...

Early in the pandemic, JDRF communicated concerns to the Medicare program regarding the ability of Medicare beneficiaries and providers to comply with CGM and #insulin pump eligibility criteria. We're pleased to share that they heard our concerns, and responded swiftly.

For the duration of the pandemic, the Medicare program has waived the requirement for a face-to-face visit to obtain an insulin pump, CGM, or associated supplies. Further, the “clinical criteria” have also been waived, including things like the lab tests for C-peptide or auto-antibodies, or logs of finger sticks. (The only thing that appears to be necessary is that the prescriber document that “the services were actually provided, and at the level billed, and that they were medically necessary.”

This means people with diabetes can avoid physician's offices and labs where they run the risk of COVID infection, and it greatly eases the paperwork burden on providers, many of whom are working without key communications systems that are typically needed to comply with the ordinary requirements.
